This must have been asked before (??)
Is there a way to rotate a selection . I have found the 90 degrees way however I often want a horizontal flip over
Win11
Cheers
I don't get emails (seem too hard to change one number in a new address :( ) so I will need to remember to check back here

What specifically do you mean by a "selection," a 'marching ants' pixel selection, an object layer, something else? Which Affinity app are you using?

By "horizontal flip" do you mean flip left to right or just some rotation other than 90°?

If I make a ‘marching ants’ selection in APh, I can use the Move Tool to rotate it by an arbitrary angle. However, ‘Flip Horizontal’ and ‘Flip Vertical’ don’t seem to have any effect.

Make a marquee selection
Enter Quick Mask (Q)
With Move Tool active Arrange > Flip Horizontal or (vertical)
Exit Quick Mask (Q)

The marquee selection will be flipped but not the underlying pixels

(But I'm not entirely sure what the OP is asking for)

Interestingly, while a 'marching ants' selection is independent of any layer or pixels in the document (because you can make one & save the document without adding any layers), the above procedure does not work unless there is a pixel layer, even if it is empty, because in that case the Arrange menu flip & rotate items are greyed out.

On Windows the flip & rotate items are not greyed out when in Quick Mask mode, even on an empty document and will still work on the marquee selection (2.6.2 beta)

If you make a "marching ants" selection, you can duplicate just the selection using <CTRL>j (<CMD>j on Mac). This will create a new layer with just the selected pixels. You can rotate this with the move tool, or right-click/transform/flip horizontal to flip horizontally.

I am not talking about the AP beta but about the current 2.6.0 version. Can you check in the Windows version of that if with no layer in the document, the Arrange flip & rotate items are greyed out or available.

I am not sure what you mean about duplicating that selection using CTRL or CMD -- there must me more to it than just using that modifier key by itself. I cannot get a new layer using CMD-J, nor does this seem to have anything to do with what I was talking about when there is no layers in the document.

Can you explain more about what you are suggesting?

Sorry, could have added last version of Affinity Photo

But you still haven't told us what you mean by selection. Is it a layer, marching ants, what?

That may be better than the way I have since worked

It would really help if you could tell us exactly what it is you are trying to flip. It might be simple; it might not, but as it is all we can do is guess.

Might close this thread and start a new one to explain my work around

Workaround for what? It won't be any different in a new topic if you do not give us all the requested details, just more confusing because there will be 2 topics, apparently about the same as yet unexplained problem you are having so it is likely that there will be relevant posts in both, making it harder to help you sort this out.

TL;DR: Pease post everything about a specific issue in one topic.
