ianrb Posted March 11 Posted March 11 This must have been asked before (??) Is there a way to rotate a selection . I have found the 90 degrees way however I often want a horizontal flip over Win11 Cheers I don't get emails (seem too hard to change one number in a new address ) so I will need to remember to check back here
R C-R Posted March 11 Posted March 11 What specifically do you mean by a "selection," a 'marching ants' pixel selection, an object layer, something else? Which Affinity app are you using? By "horizontal flip" do you mean flip left to right or just some rotation other than 90°? Alfred Posted March 11 Posted March 11 If I make a ‘marching ants’ selection in APh, I can use the Move Tool to rotate it by an arbitrary angle. However, ‘Flip Horizontal’ and ‘Flip Vertical’ don’t seem to have any effect. ianrb 1 Alfred Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for Windows • Windows 10 Home/Pro Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for iPad • iPadOS 17.5.1 (iPad 7th gen)

Make a marquee selection Enter Quick Mask (Q) With Move Tool active Arrange > Flip Horizontal or (vertical) Exit Quick Mask (Q) The marquee selection will be flipped but not the underlying pixels (But I'm not entirely sure what the OP is asking for) Alfred and R C-R 1 1 To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. On Windows the flip & rotate items are not greyed out when in Quick Mask mode, even on an empty document and will still work on the marquee selection (2.6.2 beta) R C-R 1 To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. Greg E Posted March 11 Posted March 11 If you make a "marching ants" selection, you can duplicate just the selection using <CTRL>j (<CMD>j on Mac). This will create a new layer with just the selected pixels. You can rotate this with the move tool, or right-click/transform/flip horizontal to flip horizontally. R C-R 1

Can you check in the Windows version of that if with no layer in the document, the Arrange flip & rotate items are greyed out or available. 1 hour ago, Greg E said: If you make a "marching ants" selection, you can duplicate just the selection using <CTRL>j (<CMD>j on Mac). I am not sure what you mean about duplicating that selection using CTRL or CMD -- there must me more to it than just using that modifier key by itself. I cannot get a new layer using CMD-J, nor does this seem to have anything to do with what I was talking about when there is no layers in the document. Can you explain more about what you are suggesting?
