Barry Forbes Posted February 25 Posted February 25 The erase brush tools are no longer working as they did prior to the update. The erase brush still works as it did but the erase background tools and the flood erase tools no longer work as they did. The attached video shows what happens now. The background brush doesn't pick out the background and the flood erase brush simply erases the entire image. 2025-02-25 21-57-35.mkv Quote
carl123 Posted February 26 Posted February 26 From what I can see in your video you appear to have a mask layer and you are erasing on that layer Try selecting just the image layer and try again (you may need to rasterise the image layer) Komatös 1 Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. Realto Posted March 19 Posted March 19 Not sure about the OP, but I'm having the same issue. I hadn't noticed that it automatically applied a mask for some reason, but even if you remove the mask it still doesn't work: the only difference is that with the mask it appeared to erase the entire image and without it there's no effect at all. I've tried this with several images and I'm convinced it's a bug, so please investigate this issue. Thanks! Paul Quote
PaulEC Posted March 19 Posted March 19 If you're getting a mask you're probably working on an Image layer, rather than a raster layer. Right click on the thumbnail and choose "rasterise", before making a selection. (If you Place a picture, rather than opening it, you get an Image layer, not a raster layer.) Barry Forbes Posted March 19 Author Posted March 19 I'm certain that what I'm experiencing is a bug with the update. I'm using an earlier version of affinity in the school I work in and can use the flood erase tool in exactly the way shown and the way shown around halfway through this video without any issues. PaulEC Posted March 19 Posted March 19 Have you tried rasterising the layer before using the Eraser tools? Realto Posted March 20 Posted March 20 Opening the image instead of pasting seems to work still, which is great news, so thanks for the tip! However, it used to work either way. so there's that. Also, I'm not impressed with the new tool they came out with at the same time this started happening. It makes my computer cripplingly unresponsive and has forced me to shut down at least twice because I couldn't even bring up Task Manager to kill the app. The last time it happened I waited it out and didn't have to shut it down, but the program was totally unresponsive. And my computer is hardly a Stegosaurus so I'm probably not the only one having problems... Thanks for your help! Quote
