Every time I open the app it's the same, the default setting for proportionally enlarging an object or image is set to non-proportional, even though 99.99 percent of the time the resize option is out of the question. The settings that are logical and used most often should be set as the default settings. I keep repeating this, but it's a minor change that hasn't changed in the new beta.

But how do we know if what YOU want as default is the same as what OTHERS want as default? Or which state is "used most often"?

I suppose it could make sense to have this setting be "sticky" or controlled by a preference somewhere.

In principle, it’s straightforward in a professional context: Serif hires a UX specialist (which they currently don’t have) and allows this person to gather insights about customer behavior (such as this customer’s request) through multiple channels, particularly via live meetings with industry networks and user testing. They would investigate common practices in other software, what the industry is accustomed to, and what it values. Ultimately, the UX specialist would make an informed decision about whether or not to implement the feature in Affinity, based on their expertise and responsibility for the user interface across the applications.

Let Serif handle the statistics - and by all means, Serif, hire a real UX professional or two. It directly impacts sales, brand value, and reputation. We are truly talking about that level of impact.

Serif, did you foolishly fill the usability specialist role you advertised internally? If so, be transparent with your customers. Continuing without proper UX expertise insults your entire user base.

What good is that thing anyway?  Whenever it is turned on, every time I try to fix the height the width keeps changing, even though it was right to begin with.  Then I try to fix the width and the height goes back to the wrong value, in spite of my just having fixed it a moment ago!

Okay, so if you don't know what the default is, I'm an InDesign user, I've been working on InDesign for over 20 years from the beginning, based on my experience, I can tell you that the vast majority of transformations, images and pictures are not distorted, as are illustrations, pictograms or most graphic elements. Then, if this default doesn't work for you, then it could be simple, when I first set the proportional scale mode, it remains written in the settings, so that the next time I open the application, the setting is as I set it and the matter is solved, now it is always placed in the position of the non-proportional transformation. Would that work?

Yes, the "sticky" setting would work and suit the vast majority of users - that's why there are hundreds of requests and pleas on the forum for Serif to finally start respecting it. Unfortunately, without success - even after many years 😞
