Whenever I use the QR Code Tool in Publisher, the QR Code is drawn in blue, but immediately greys out when I click away from it. No one else seems to be reporting this, so it's probably something I'm doing wrong. is there a trick to this?

Thank you,

John

Welcome on these forums! :)

Your screenshot helps to see the result but a full window screenshot, or better an example file exhibiting the problem should be more helpful to find the cause of this.

Change the Fill color to another one - whatever you need.

@Pšenda, thank you 😀

That worked. Here is where I do yet another forehead-slap. It didn't occur to me to try picking a colour - I guess I expected a default code that was visible, not transparent. But it's fixed now, so, many thanks indeed.

@Oufti, thanks also. I'll try to remember to include a working file with my next issue, if I can. It's good advice, and appreciated.

The default - light gray color is really unusual. I would also expect a standard and completely common black color, not a color that is used more to express a disabled state.

Basically, the QR Code is just handled as another kind of Shape, and uses the default (or current) Shape color you have configured.

Sure, but given that 99.9% of QR codes are black (at least in the world I live in), it's obvious that this isn't a good way to define its default color, as it requires constant adjustment. It would be much more convenient if individual shapes allowed for a specific color choice.

Good idea. If we had installation defaults for each shape, we could get something sensible ‘out of the box’ (e.g. black for QR codes, red for hearts, etc) with the current foreground colour being used for any shape that doesn’t have a default value at installation.
