ronnyb Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 Certainly not a bug, probably a side-effect of parallel / multi-threaded file loading and disk access: Dragging a selection of files from the Finder into empty APhoto app window opens files in random/fastest order. It would be great if Affinity Suite respected the file order in current Finder window, be it Sorted/Grouped by name, Date, Size, Last Opened, etc. This is for workflow purposes of course; when working with many files comparatively. GarryP Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 Is this something which is specific to the beta? Quote
Hangman Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 Hi @ronnyb, Unfortunately, this is a long-standing problem dating back to V1 so not unique to the Beta... I reported it here back in 2019 but since then the situation has actually become worse... If you open a series of images and re-order them so they appear sequentially from left to right, adding additional images will then re-order your neatly ordered tabs so they all appear out of order again, i.e., open say ten images with a _01, _02, _03 filename suffixes, they will appear in a random order once opened, re-order the tabs so they appear sequentially... Now add another five images with _11, _12, _13, _14, _15 filename suffixes and your sequentially ordered _01 to _10 images all appear out of order again... ronnyb 1 Quote Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 Affinity Designer 2.6.2 (3213) Beta | Affinity Photo 2.6.2 (3213) Beta | Affinity Publisher 2.6.2 (3213) Beta MacBook Pro M3 Max, 36 GB Unified Memory, macOS Sonoma 14.6.1, Magic Mouse HP ENVY x360, 8 GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 5 2500U, Windows 10 Home, Logitech Mouse

Thanks @Hangman I came back to report just that... It's not unfortunate, it's by someone's choice/decision to continue ignoring bugs. Who is that person? I guess it's just another "issue" not worthy of being addressed by Affinity —yet they continue marketing the software for "professionals." This is just basic stuff that drives you insane if you have to work regularly with this software. We also can't save to cloud, usb, or network drives reliably for a decade now? So many USABILITY "issues" are ignored (but they'll add a garbage, AI Auto Selection feature; that's a just great way to use the limited resources of their developers and beta testers... It's becoming more and more of a hindrance dealing with this suite and the lack of seriousness Affinity shows towards getting the basics right or addressing the needs of it's (professional) users. AFFINITY: UI and UX ARE REAL "ISSUES" TO FIX. STOP WASTING EVERYONE'S TIME WITH USELESS, GARBAGE "FEATURES". STOP MOVING MY TABS AROUND, MAKING MY WORK HARDER! FIX THE DAMN BASICS ALREADY!!! Staff Affinity Info Bot Posted December 22, 2024 Staff Posted December 22, 2024 An issue raised in this thread ("Opening multiple numbered files should display document tabs in the order they are numbered.") has now been reported to the developers by the testing team (Ref: APL-511). Thank you very much for reporting this issue to us. ronnyb 1 Quote
Staff Pauls Posted December 22, 2024 Staff Posted December 22, 2024 I've added your report to the improvement issue - it would be nice if they honoured the order presented by the operating system ronnyb 1 Quote
