paleolith Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 For those of us with less than perfect eyesight, a reasonably high contrast UI is critical to usability. Unfortunately no combination of settings provides consistently high contrast along with other necessary visual features. If I select UI Style: Light and UI Contrast: High, then ironically the Settings panel itself becomes LOW contrast: With Dark + High, the text in the Settings panel is visible (though inferior to black on white), but it's totally impossible to see which elements are selected: The rest of the UI is no better at tracking the chosen style. For example, with Light style and High contrast, the Layers panel (certainly one of the most important elements of the entire UI) is VERY LOW contrast : The list could go on forever. We need UI settings which provide high visibility across the enitre UI, not just random, uncoordinated settings which fail to apply to all elements of the UI. Clearly Serif/Affinity need a UI/UX expert who is given the clout to enforce UI design principles. I very much appreciate the capabilities of Affinity software, but the visual appearance of the UI, and the resulting effort to drive the software to its capabilities, is a constant, grating annoyance. I did not record that. Your version is in fact what I decided to try for a while. But I still see it as low contrast. And menus are quite hard to see. Quote
