Cuts/holes in the corners of the stroke when I use the Stroke Width tool

Recommended Posts

Hello! When I use the stroke width tool, some holes and cuts appear in the corners. Sometimes the line even gets a thickness that I didn't put near these corners. After some tests, I realized that this happens when at least one of the curves that make up this corner is curved. When curves are straight lines, this does not happen

I've tested it, and it's not just a preview issue, when I export the image, it loads these holes, and when I expand the stroke to a curve, it also occurs.

I would like to know if there are plans to fix this bug. Thank you!

I'm using the lastest version of Affinity 2 Beta.

If you mean this (from just over two months ago):

https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/207964-more-stroke-width-issues/

...then, as mentioned in that thread, it’s been logged with the developers along with various other related issues.

Fixes take as long as they take and some problems have a higher priority within Serif than others (by my estimate they will probably have many hundreds of bugs/problems/suggestions/requests outstanding). All we users can do is wait (or ‘jump ship’).

Specifically it's AF-3776 (from just over 1 month ago).

they really need to fix this fast its super annoying and ruins a huge aspect of this program i reported this a while back but they haven't fixed it yet

All because of the stroke width tool uses the very poor pressure profile algorithm from the stroke panel that hasn't been improved for years now or maybe at all.

I wouldn't keep my fingers crossed that this will change anytime soon and that these bugs will be fixed. And I mean years, not months. They will do the uusal:

  1. Log it as a bug,
  2. Mark the post with a bug tag,
  3. Bury with other bugs in the bug tracking system for years until someone finally looks at it and decides it's time to finally address it.
  4. If someone asks about it in the meantime, the answer will be that it's currently being logged as a bug, but there's no ETA for a fix.
But don't worry, moderators will tell you they'll bump the report to get the developers' attention to this bug so they can fix it ASAP.
Of course, this doesn't mean anything and doesn't speed up the fix release.
  5. In the end, the result of the fix will be the same as usual, which is one or more regressions for every bug fixed. Sad, but true.

This is quite optimistic in my opinion, only the bugs themselves are much more than a few hundred 😢, and there are still requests for improvements and functions.
