dcarvalho84 Posted June 19, 2024 Posted June 19, 2024 I have a file that let me generate some labels for a client and the "master" file would let me generate the pdf to print. All that i needed to do is updating my data merge excel file and generate, but in the 2.5.2 and 2.5.3 beta i just have the first record from the file in all the rows defined in the data merge layout tool, and if i click int the context toolbar in the record offset or record advance nothing happens. Attached the publisher file and one excel file with generic data because i can't share the client file. All that i expect is the 1st record in the first cell, the second in the second and so on, and was working ok the last time i've used before these versions. Am i doing anything wrong or is there effectively a bug? Names.xlsx Names Test.afpub Quote
walt.farrell Posted June 19, 2024 Posted June 19, 2024 It sounds like you may be describing how the Preview of the Data Merge looks. That will only show 1 record. And that's what I see, too. But if I click Generate in the Data Merge Manager it all works fine, with your sample data. Hangman Posted June 19, 2024 Posted June 19, 2024 Hi @dcarvalho84, With the Data Merge tool selected, in the context toolbar change this... to this... and see if that fixes the problem... But I was mainly responding to the statement that only the first record was produced. That's what you see in Preview, but in Generate I got all the specified records. dcarvalho84 Posted June 19, 2024 Author Posted June 19, 2024 @walt.farrell and @Hangman thanks for your replies. @walt.farrell i didn't honestly click the generate button because of the preview which i think we both agree that is broken. (it was working well in the latest versions before those two) @Hangman you're right the settings you've recommended are the ones that i have in my original file. Quote

Good to hear, hopefully, this means all is working again from a label generation point of view... I'm almost 100% sure that the preview was updated as soon as the context toolbar settings were updated because that was what helped me creating the "master" file, but i'm waiting someone inside tell me if it is something odd here or not. Yes, fortunately i can do my work 🤣 Hangman 1 Quote

But I haven't used Data Merge that much. dcarvalho84 1 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. Pyanepsion Posted June 20, 2024 Posted June 20, 2024 Hi, @dcarvalho84a, I think that the label management process is currently badly designed, because it’s not at all intuitive, and it doesn’t work in real time. To start with, you need to import the database. Then you need to create a label, preferably using the Text Frame tool. I’ll start by setting the background to colour to make things easier. Then use the Data Merge tool to encompass the label. Next, you need to define the number of columns and rows. Then select the layout order and tick the Show record option. Unfortunately, the preview only shows the first label. Finally, you can generate the labels. At this stage, errors may be found in the page layout or in selected labels, requiring modifications and a new generation of labels. Finally, you can remove the colour from the text box and finish. https://affinity.help/publisher/English.lproj/index.html?page=pages/Tools/tools_dataMergeNode.html&title=Data Merge Layout Tool Quote 6 cœurs, 12 processus - Windows 11 pro - 4K - DirectX 12 - Suite universelle Affinity (Affinity Publisher, Affinity Designer, Affinity Photo). ███ Mais je vous le demande, peut-on imaginer une police sans sérifs ?
