ZenMasta
I'm trying to align text and an image but when I select the objects, the align to dropdown is grayed out so I can't change it from artboard to selection bounds. What am I missing? Designer v2.5.2 As I'm typing this I finally noticed a sub toolbar that has other alignment icons and this works on the selection. I feel like it didn't used to be this way. But I don't remember when that may have changed. I decided to proceed with this post so maybe someone else can find the answer searching. I still think it's confusing and I don't know why the option is grayed out.

What am I missing? Designer v2.5.2 You need to choose an alignment option first then you would be able to select "Align to:" option. It shouldn't work this way, but Serif refuses to unlock the "Align To:" drop-down so that it can be used at any time. Shame you, Serif👎 ZenMasta and Westerwälder 1
ZenMasta
This is absurd. You can't even click the alignment button without first selecting SOMETHING. How do you even do that? I just tried selecting some text with no image and I don't even have any alignment options on the sub toolbar. It certainly doesn't help that the help appears to be out dated "From the Layer menu's Alignment submenu, select an alignment option." What is that even talkinga bout? When not using the menu, you must choose an Align Vertical or an Align Horizontal option to enable the option below it: 20240605-1712-51.1032724.mp4 ZenMasta 1 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. ZenMasta
Layers menu I'm a little special for interpreting that as layers panel. But that's so many more steps than just unlocking that align to drop down.
GarryP
You can use menu “View → Customise Toolbar…” to add either specific Alignment buttons or a group of Alignment buttons to the Toolbar, rather than using those functionalities via the Layer menu. You can also assign keyboard shortcuts to any item on the Layer menu that @walt.farrell showed above.
