By “snap to the edge of the image” do you mean:

  • Snap to a boundary edge of the image/pixel layer, or;
  • Snap to the furthest extent of the part of the image where the pixels change from being fully-transparent to being non-fully-transparent, or;
  • something else?

The Crop Tool does not snap to objects within your document, including placed images

But it will snap to guides, so snap a guide to your image then snap the crop to the guide

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

Thank you for this workaround! Crop tool snaps to selections too. so instead using guides, I click on the layer thumbnail while pressing command to make it a selection. :D

I found the solution from somewhere else, but I think it's worth mentioning it here for others:

Enable snapping but uncheck "Only snap to visible objects". Cheers!

That is good to know, but it seems like a bug since if for example a rectangle shape is visible, then I would expect the Crop Tool to snap to it regardless of that setting.
