Hangman Posted May 16, 2024 Posted May 16, 2024 I'm not entirely sure what the 'expected' behaviour is here but... With 'Check Spelling While Typing' enabled, if you add a text frame and insert filler text, then start typing anywhere within that text frame, newly typed misspelt words don't show any red underline... If you select a single paragraph from within the inserted filler text, click on the same text style already used by the text in the text styles panel or change it to a different text style only that paragraph will show red underlining for misspelt words and only once the text is escaped (i.e., no longer selected)... If I start typing in a new text frame, misspelt words will correctly show the red underline, if I now insert filler text into the same text frame, the filler text won't show misspelt words but if I click on the same or a new text style in the text styles panel the filler text now shows the red underline for misspelt words... I'm unsure why selecting the existing text style or changing the text style invokes 'Check Spelling'... By default, that will give you Latin-like text with Spelling Language set to None. 1 hour ago, Hangman said: If you select a single paragraph from within the inserted filler text, click on the same text style already used by the text in the text styles panel or change it to a different text style only that paragraph will show red underlining for misspelt words and only once the text is escaped (i.e., no longer selected)... I'm not sure why it's "only when no longer selected", but setting the Text Style would affect the Language settings, and thus the Spell Checking functionality. 1 hour ago, Hangman said: If I start typing in a new text frame, misspelt words will correctly show the red underline, if I now insert filler text into the same text frame, the filler text won't show misspelt words but if I click on the same or a new text style in the text styles panel the filler text now shows the red underline for misspelt words... The 'Body' text style is based on the 'Base' text style which for me adopts these settings: So inserting filler text in this instance has the Spelling Language set to English (United Kingdom) but you still see the same results described in the first post... MikeTO Posted May 16, 2024 Posted May 16, 2024 (edited) Keep in mind that the text style editor is broken in this beta, you always need to click a different pane and then back to the pane you are interested in to see the actual values for the style you're editing. MikeTO Posted May 16, 2024 Posted May 16, 2024 Just expand the summary at the top of Text Styles to see what's going on. When you insert Filler Text, it applies overrides for the four Language options including setting Spelling to None. It's a little bonus feature of Filler Text. Spelling is set to None so you don't see a big sea of red squiggles and hyphenation is set to Latin so the filler text can be hyphenated properly. I only figured this out recently, whoever coded it did this quite nicely. This is why the latin hyphenation dictionary is included in the package.
