Designer Beta 2.5.0.2415 won't start

@Sean P, I forgot to answer one of your questions. I have 486 font files in my Windows fonts directory.

Thank you for the files! Unfortunately I'm still unable to reproduce the crash you're getting and cannot see anything obvious myself in the Process Monitor log, though I have passed that on to development to see if they can.

In the meantime are you able to go to C:\Windows\Fonts\ and select all the fonts, copy them to a new folder (via Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V) and then zip and attach that to Dropbox please if it isn't too big?

@Sean P,

I can't get it to create a crash report.

I got the installer for the beta .2430. It also refuses to run after one successful start, but I noticed one difference, which does relate to fonts. With .2415, the font that says "support your" was displayed in a generic way and a message box said the font (Vinay Solid) was missing. In .2430, it is shown correctly.

I installed .2415 again to show the difference, but it will not run at all, now. It did create crash reports, which I have attached.

A zip of my fonts folder is uploading. It's at 71% with 12 minutes to go . . . .

Thank you very much for the crash reports and the fonts. Whilst I still cannot replicate it with those fonts installed, the crash reports do seem to be working this time. I've passed these onto development, so fingers crossed these shine a light on what is happening!

@Sean P,

I downloaded Beta 2449 and I have new info for you. I don't know if this was the case with previous versions, but my problem at this point is that the app will not run if I try to start it from a desktop shortcut. I have always started it like that before, but I guess that stopped working with 2.5.

Anyway, it will run normally if I start it from the Windows Start menu. It just won't start from a desktop shortcut.

Is that something?

How and when did you create that shortcut?

If you're using the MSIX installers, shortcuts created for prior releases won't work after the new release is installed, and would need to be recreated. I'm not sure if that would apply if you're using the EXE/MSI installers.

@walt.farrell,

I create a new shortcut every time a new version is installed.

And how do you do it?

And are you using MSIX or EXE/MSI as the install mechanism?

@walt.farrell,

THIS time, I ran the previous version and let it upgrade itself. Then I went to the folder where Designer.exe is, right-click-n-dragged it onto my desktop, and chose Create Shortcut Here. If I were to re-install it (which I have done numerous times for the previous version), I would use the .MSIX download to reinstall it.

I don't think that is a good way to create a shortcut when you've installed using MSIX. I would use the method described in the FAQ:

@walt.farrell,

Thanks for that. Never heard of such a thing, and it had always worked before . . .

And guess what does work:image.png.069ba670f01c21c6527c2703e4af17b4.png
