Applying Masters from drop down menu not possible

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I came across the most bizarre behaviour in Publisher: Just before lunch I was working on a file and able to apply masters to pages. Half an hour later I cannot select anything in the Masters drop-down menu, i.e. I cannot apply master pages this way. I force quitted Publisher but nothing has improved. Any ideas?

It seems like it. I didn't notice that when I run the topic search. Anyway, it seems that they didn't manage to solve it then. I also seem to be experiencing all sorts of other issues with Publisher that I didn't notice before.

What happens if you apply a Master such as A or B instead of Blanc? Your video shows you choosing to apply Blanc to the Page.

@Old Bruce, my video actually shows that I tried to apply different masters but no matter what I clicked on it didn't work. That's the whole point of my post.

I would say your video shows you selecting and not applying Master B and Master C before finally selecting and applying Blanc. To actually apply the Master you need to hit the OK button. To the best of my recollection it has always been that way.

@Old Bruce, it seems that you are missing something in that video.

In the recording, on every click action, a circle appears around the cursor. You should clearly see that I am showing that no matter which Master Page I click (with the circle), nothing changes, i.e. it stays as Blanc which was there by default. I finish with OK to close the window (yes, I do realise I need to confirm my choice with the correct button).

This behaviour started only today and the lack of any material response neither here or in the long thread that @Pšenda kindly referred to is rather irritating so please be mindful and don't push me.

Try a "click" on Master Page B, and then apply it by hitting OK. Until you hit OK you have not actually made a decision of which Master Page to apply.

It looks to me that in your video the only master page you selected and then clicked OK for was the Blanc one already there. Try doing what @Old Bruce suggested above & select Master B & then click OK.

Does that work?

Guys, seriously, it's not that it's the first time I am using a computer or Publisher. I don't know what you don't see in the video so you need to trust in my word that I do select and click on the Master I want to change to. I will reiterate: the problem is that I cannot select any Master page. I click - but it does not get selected. You should be able to see the click as the circle appears around the cursor on the action. If you don't see that and don't know another solution then you are free to save your time and mine and focus your energy elsewhere.

In the other thread, I didn't see the problem resolved. Has the developer actually managed to reproduce the problem and find the solution at all?

If you're using V1, and you're on Sonoma, then you have the problem described in that other topic, and there's no workaround other than using drag/drop as mentioned in that topic:

@walt.farrell it's not a favourable outcome but at least it's definitive. Is it known if the problem is associated with the system update at all? As I mentioned, it stopped working not overnight, after the system update, but during normal work. I thought that perhaps I unintentionally triggered some process or command that prevented changing the Masters as usual.

Sorry, @PanGad, but I don't know anything more than the information in that topic. Perhaps Serif staff know more, but if so they haven't said anything that I've seen.
