Soft Edges Affinity Photo, Help!

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm not very familiar with AFP. I want to ask you something.
After selection with the "Selection Brush Tool", when I copy-paste, it has a soft edge. But this is not possible with the "Flood Selection Tool". How can I copy-paste a soft edge with the "Flood Selection Tool"? Note: I need to use the "Flood Selection Tool" for this.

If you activate ‘Antialias’ in the Context toolbar for the Flood Selection tool before making your selection dose that help you get your desired result?

Yes! That worked.. But I could have sworn I tried that and, it didn't work☹️ I think it was a problem with AFP. There could be a delay or an error.

Thank you so much for helping🙏

For an existing selection, choose the ‘Feather…’ option on the Select menu.

Are you sure that works. If I change the Feather setting after creating a selection, the existing selection is not changed.

I’ve certainly had it working, but I have to confess that it doesn’t seem to work consistently!

I'm pretty sure that it doesn't, It's a well established phenomenon that works Norf of Nottingham otherwise you need to set the feather before making the selection.
It always hacked me off in Photoshop as I never developed a feel for how much feather to apply so I took to
making a selection with feather zero
press Q
apply Gaussian blur to get some visual idea
press Q

Here's a flood-selected region, copied and pasted to a new layer before feathering:

Where did you make your 'magic wand' selection, David? I think I clicked near the top of the big pineberry just above the name 'Emmbean', giving me the solid selection shown in the second image. 'Select > Feather...' with a suitable radius (which, of course, I didn't make a note of!) feathered that selection to yield what you see in the third image.

That may be the difference. I did not understand you were using the Select menu, vs changing the Feather setting in the Context Toolbar.
