BeckTPet Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 (edited) Hello all, hope someone can help! I got Affinity 2 for work and from day one, I spotted this bug in V2 that isn't there in V1. I illustrate a lot and we have a 2pt thickness rule for our drawings at work, and there's lots of curves pasted inside curves etc. So upon using V2 I realised that the Select < Select Object < Curves option doesn't function correctly anymore. Curves pasted inside other curves are no longer selected (and its the same with other Select options, they mostly ignore things pasted inside other things). There's a screenshot of V1 vs V2 below to show an example. I do a lot of selecting every curve in a drawing to edit all the stokes simultaneously so this bug slowed down my workflow a lot (manually going inside every pasted object to adjust the stroke is silly when Affinity 1 is right there selecting every single one on an artboard) so I just stayed with V1. Its been a few updates and I check this every single time, no one else seems to be flagging it in the same way as me, I only found a few posts that sort of sounded like my problem? I'm not sure. I've tired posting about this before on another account and even emailed Affinity, didn't really get anywhere. I'm also not sure if this thing I saw on another post about "Allow selection to consider items inside a group" (also screenshotted below) has anything to do with it? But this option is just completely missing on my context bar as of Affinity 2.4 so that's still a bug regardless. I would love to start using Affinity V2, there's a lot of cool features. I would stick with V1 for drawing and use V2 for other stuff but I can't easily go between V1 and V2 because V2 just breaks artboards and turns curves pasted inside curves into masks? It just does weird stuff, its not very backwards compatible imo - so if I moved over to 2, I'd need it to be fully in, which means illustrating with V2. Hope that makes enough sense. If this is just a purposeful change for V2 and there's a new way to select every curve on an artboard then I'd greatly benefit from knowing how to do that! If it's a purposeful change to V2 and not a bug, and you're now expected to manually select everything pasted inside other curves - on what can be very detailed drawings - then with respect I'll just stick to Affinity V1. - Beck Edited March 4, 2024 by BeckTPet loukash 1 Quote

The 'Allow selection to consider items inside a group' was replaced in v2.1 with an 'Auto-Select' dropdown which appears in the context toolbar when the Move tool is selected... Selecting Objects from the dropdown will have the same effect as the old 'Allow selection to consider items inside a group' option from v1. Not if they are children of a curve. The latter is the v2 bug. Convert your Ellipse to curves and you'll see the bug in action. BeckTPet Posted October 29, 2024 Author Posted October 29, 2024 Unfortunately this still currently an issue with Affinity V2. Been hoping to see it fixed every update. Think I'm gonna have to start badgering them a little bit to sort it, it's such a huge issue for any super detailed drawings where lots of curves are pasted inside other curves. Quote

I've updated and bumped the existing report. Hello, just waned to update on this. The bug is still present unfortunately as of this recent update. Just tested it out with the same method as before. It's still preventing us from using Affinity V2 as it messes up our workflow for illustrating assets if we can't select all curves present on the artboard, which is a shame because we'd love to be using all the features not present in V1! If it's possible to bump the report for this again please, it would be much appreciated. Cheers! Quote
