Changing Angles in Layer Effects via the mouse scroll button doesn’t always affect the layer on the canvas

Recommended Posts

Designer 2.3.1 on Windows 10.

When I use the mouse scroll wheel to change the Angle setting, in any Layer Effect, the change to the value is not always reflected on the canvas.

When I use the scroll wheel over the ‘value area’ then the change doesn’t come into effect, but the change does come into effect when I use the scroll wheel over the rest of the control (outside the ‘value area’).

See attached video.

Am I just doing it wrong or is it not working as it should?

(I searched the forums for layer effect angle but couldn’t find anything relevant.)

Are you using in your video the keyboard up/down keys or the scroll wheel? In case of the latter your video appears to show it working as expected (while the video does not contain the mentioned situation with the cursor outside the circular angle UI).

FWIW, to me (V1, mac) the scroll wheel works inside the circle but not outside. Whereas with the value field activated (highlighted) the wheel still works but without live updates for the value and the up/down keys just move the text cursor but don't alter the value (which I don't mind and never used to set the angle before this test).

In the video, when the angle value changes, I am using the mouse scroll wheel only.

I didn’t mention anything about the mouse pointer being outside of the angle control, and would not expect anything to happen to the angle control in those instances.

I don't know, however I'm seeing the same.

Thanks for confirming.

I can’t think of a reason why anyone might want to increment/decrement the angle value without seeing the change reflected on the canvas but I might not be aware of every need.

I wonder if this happens on macOS also.

Hi @GarryP,

Thanks for your report!

I would expect for this change to be updated on the canvas, regardless of the cursors position when changing this value.

This is true on macOS, where the FX updates when scrolling over the Angle value itself or the wider circular control - therefore I'm getting this logged with our development team now.

I hope this helps :)

The issue "[Win] Mouse Scrolling the Angle field in FX does not visually update changes on canvas when cursor is over the Angle value itself" (REF: AF-2121) has been fixed by the developers in internal build "2.5.0.2317".
This fix should soon be available as a customer beta and is planned for inclusion in the next customer release.
Customer beta builds are announced here and you can participate by following these instructions.
If you still experience this problem once you are using that build version (or later) please reply to this thread including @Affinity Info Bot to notify us.
