Footnote numbers should be ignored in search

Recommended Posts

Works here for me with a quick simple test on Mac OS 12.7.3 Publisher 2.3.1

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

If you search in Publisher for a word, and an instance of that word has a footnote after it, that word instance won't be found.

You forgot this important detail: 🙂

With that setting (Match Whole Word Only) enabled, the word is not found anymore. But it will be otherwise in these instances: ,word. (word) #word# so the followed by footnote scenario is a bug.

It is actually a nasty bug that should be given priority.

You are correct. If you search for a word followed by a footnote and have Whole Word selected, it will not find it and it should. Other apps (e.g., MS Word, Apple Pages) will find it. I believe this is a bug but was probably just an oversight. Publisher correctly finds a word followed by punctuation even with Whole Words selected, and it just needs to treat note markers as punctuation for Find.

One more variation of this bug. An index marker or anchor after the word will also cause Find to fail with whole words selected. This is less common because Publisher inserts index markers and anchors before words, but if you have one after it won't work.

The issue "Find & Replace- Searching for words with an Anchor/note/index marker inserted will fail to find the word with 'match whole word' enabled" (REF: AF-1928) has been fixed by the developers in internal build "2.5.0.2317".
This fix should soon be available as a customer beta and is planned for inclusion in the next customer release.
Customer beta builds are announced here and you can participate by following these instructions.
If you still experience this problem once you are using that build version (or later) please reply to this thread including @Affinity Info Bot to notify us.
