Tool guide for iPad? (Or help with my query)

Recommended Posts

Hi, I’m having trouble finding out how to do what should be basic things, because I’m struggling to find where all the tools/buttons are.  It’s easy on a PC because you have the menu’s at the top, on ipad there aren’t any.   Is there a guide anywhere that can tell me where exactly to find anything - for Designer, Publisher and Photo.

For example.  I’m simply trying to find the document set up in Designer because I want to change the bleed settings (assuming that’s the right thing to do when I’m working on an artboard as there are no other instructions for that).  I can’t find anything that I can relate to these instructions?!?!?

I’d appreciate any help.

Thank you

I think you're looking at desktop Help. You need to use the iPad Help, for the right version and application.

Start at https://affinity.help and choose the application and version and make sure you're in the iPad Help.

I searched help on my ipad first, then went to the web and found the above, and can see you’re right, that was for PC.  Using their own phrases I’ve gone back to my ipad now, searched and found this.  But I’m still none the wiser.  For example where is ‘toggle preview mode’? - it’s not in the three lines menu.

I really do wish there was some kind of map  (then I wouldn’t have to keep asking questions all the time too).

In the in-app Help, or online at the URL I gave (after clicking Designer V2 iPad), type toggle preview in the Search bar and the first result should be https://affinity.help/designer2ipad/en-US.lproj/pages/DesignAids/previewMode.html which will show you where it is.

That meter needle icon certainly isn’t what I would call an obvious pointer(!) to the location of the Preview Mode control.

Thank you all for your help. It turns out I can’t add a bleed from there. I still don’t know if there’s a way to do that (add one after set up) but it’s not so difficult to do a work around by copy/pasting the boards into a new document.

Regarding the videos, they are excellent if you want to learn about a subject, but if you have a specific question it’s a really long thing to do when you don’t know if it’ll even be covered.

I think it would be amazing to have like a map of the functions - that would help so much.

From memory (and it’s not that great lately), I seem to recall that on the iPad, bleed can only be added when creating a new document. You can adjust bleed in a document (if it was added at setup) but you can’t add it after setup. That was the case in Version 1 and I don’t recall it changing.

I don't see a way to change the Bleed, or add Bleed, in V2.

Hope I’m not misunderstanding this but you can change the bleed in document setup in Publisher V2 on the iPad, the right hand panel slides up to reveal the settings so a workaround would be to save as a .afphoto from Photo or .afdesign file from Designer and import into Publisher to adjust the bleed.
