Publisher 2.4.0.2240 brokes text frames

Recommended Posts

Hi @anto,

I've just tested with a new document on Monterey and so far haven't been able to replicate this...

When you see this happening, does zooming the canvas display the missing text?

If not could you upload the sample document used in your screen recording so we can test it?

Hi Anto,
You've correctly identified the Flow Options - they're all fighting with each other trying to keep every paragraph together creating the oddities you're seeing. Disabling all of these for all paragraphs will solve the issues for you.

I suspect at some point (not necessarily with this version) with a beta build you may have saved a text frame default (for example you may have had a frame with a font and size you like so have saved the defaults) with these options enabled, so every time you create a new document it uses that font and size.

You can fix this by having highlighting a piece of text and go to Edit > Defaults > Factory Reset and then Edit > Defaults > Save. Every time you create a new document it should now use Arial 12pt, with all flow options disabled (and also reset any other defaults that you may have changed regarding paragraph formatting)

This is very strange because in the newspaper I have checkboxes enabled in all frames for some reason, but only one of them has a problem.

That helped.

And I think the Text Flow function is not working properly. It can't be that in version 2.3.1 everything works with all the options enabled, but in the beta it doesn't. I copied the text frame from the beta and pasted it into 2.3.1 and it works with all the options enabled.

I discovered another problem. The text flow can be applied to either text or the whole frame. When you change the flow for a part of the text, the text frame should show "-", but it doesn't control this and doesn't even say that the text in the frame has changed.

Thanks - It looks like this affects all checkboxes on the Paragraph Panel. I'll get this logged with development.

This is still an issue in 2.3.1 - if you notice in your video Page 3 develops a gap as shown in the Pages thumbnail preview. I also get this behaviour as well in 2.3.1 as well.

However I don't understand why you would want to use both 'Keep with previous paragraph' and 'Keep paragraph together' throughout the entire body of text. It is trying to effectively keep all of your text on the same page or frame as all the other text. These options are normally only selectively applied to specific paragraphs to fine tune where you want them to appear. Having all of them options enabled, is just inviting problems and a lot of 'fighting' with the text.

I don't want to do this. I don't remember exactly when I turned this option on or if I turned it on. If I analyze the old files, I see that some frames have all 4 options enabled, and some do not.
The error occurred in the beta version when I opened an old file.

Now I have noticed it. But for some reason it only happens with some paragraphs.

The behavior of text flow with the Flow options enabled can be very strange, but it will always depend strongly on the exact length of the paragraphs. It can generally be explained, but only with the document available to be examined, in my experience.
