We are pleased to announce an update for the macOS release of Affinity Designer 2, version 2.3.1

The changes in Affinity Designer 2 for macOS 2.3.1 (those made since the last release Affinity Designer 2 for macOS 2.3.0are listed in this FAQ forum post:

To get notified when any new releases are made please follow the latest releases thread by clicking here

UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (which is free for all V2 users)

The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in application menu, Affinity Designer > About).

If you’ve purchased from the Mac App Store— updates are done automatically next time you run your software after it is available in the Mac App Store. If this does not happen for you, open the Mac App Store app and go to the Updates page and then Store > Reload page or press CMD+R. This should hopefully force the update to show. Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world which can mean it may take up to 72 hours for your update to be available.

If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the software it will check for updates and offer to download and install any available update, or in the application main menu there is an option Check for Updates. You can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "download" button in there. Alternatively, this new release (and previous versions of Affinity Designer for macOS) can be downloaded from this link (that installer is NOT for Mac app store purchases, which update through the Mac App Store).

Why is there never a straightforward link to the what's been updated on an app? I see that it leads me here and then I have to click around until I finally get to the release notes. What's wrong with placing the notes inside the new update window when we open the app? Clean this up is my opinion, make lives easier, it will pay off and not frustrate users. Keep up the good work as always.

(Sorry; these examples are for Photo, but you'll find the same for Designer.)

For the most recent update, you can use the application Help, e.g., for Photo 2.3 at https://affinity.help/photo2/en-US.lproj/pages/Introduction/keyFeatures.html?list=newFeatures where you'll currently find:

Or, at the Affinity Store: https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/photo/full-feature-list/ where you'll find:

I do wish that the Online and In-App Help had the feature history like the Store has, rather than just the most recent release; that would be very useful. And the Help version is nice because it often gives links to explanations in the Help, not just a list of X, Y, and Z were added.

But yes, I also agree that a direct link from the app to such a list would be helpful, too.

I agree with this, I would love to see a basic bullet list of items in the update window (on MacOS anyway) so I can make a quick decision about if this is something I need or want to address immediately. And then if I want more details I can follow the forum link, but honestly this window exists for a reason, please make use of it!

That said, grateful for the update and the continued hard work! Cheers! 🙏
