tdellaringa
While I love Affinity, this one thing has been giving me a real hard time. I have searched in vain for a solution. In the picture, you can see I have a path / curve. I want to cut that curve where the rectangular-like shape is on the right side, so I can sort of inset the line. The second image shows where I want to cut, or split, the curve twice. I can't figure out how to do this. In Illustrator, I would just use the knife tool, but there doesn't seem to be one. v_kyr
ADe v2 has a powerful Knife Tool, try that out. - Other than that covering your shown curve red cut area with some shape, selecting both and performing a geometrical subtract, should remove the cut area too. Other possible ways would be via using the Shape Builder Tool, or Compounds ... etc. Quote ☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan ☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.
firstdefence
It depends which version you have, I assume because you have referenced Illustrator you are using Affinity Designer. Affinity Designer V1 doesn't have a knife tool but V2 does. In Affinity Designer v1 you need to use the Node tool and add a node at each point on the curve you want it cut, next you can use the node tools context menu to split the curve at the selected nodes you have added to the curve. tdellaringa
Ok, using the node tool as you said I figured it out, thanks. Yes I have V1 so no knife tool. Is it worth upgrading?

The new in V2 help topic lists some of the changes, although it does not mention the Knife or Shape Builder tools, arguably among the most useful new tools for many users. First of all it's useful if you directly name in your initial posts always also the ADe version you are using, or are asking for help after. Since knowing the exact version is also essentiell for people here, in order to then give concrete matching answers and excluding advices which won't be applicable to your used version here. If it's worth upgrading to ADe v2 is something you have to check and find out for yourself here, as nobody here can decide for you. In order for you to find out, you can first download a ADe v2.x trial version and then decide afterwards on your own. thomaso
@tdellaringa, thanks to @Return's screencast I got aware of this option to delete a segment of a curve in V1. It is always worth to take a look in the bottom tooltip Status Bar (varying with tool selection AND cursor position). Unfortunately I did not find a way yet to get access to all its content which can exceed the window width on smaller screens like a laptop. As a (cumbersome) workaround I move the app window to the left off the screen to be able to increase the window width to the right until no additional tooltip occurs, in this case CTRL-Click is the last one: I am curious how the limited screen space is solved for the iPad where the screen width maybe even smaller? With several lines of tool tips? Return 1 Quote macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1
