.eb
Hi, I love the Affinity suite. I have the Publication Fonts Package. I have a small business client that likes a design with the Cynder font found in the Publication Fonts Package. The Cynder font is currently licensed only for use in Affinity tools and it is an .Affont file. How can we obtain a license for website use ? (without the need to export as curves) Thank You P.S. I do understand and I don't understand why these fonts are "Affinity" only. This is caveat extraordinaire! ❤️ Quote 20 years of technical 3d, tool dev, tech art experience. R C-R
I think you & your client would have to buy the appropriate license from Monotype for that font. .eb
@R C-R - Yeah, I must have glazed over this part. "renowned Monotype foundry" The web/other licensing for these fonts is not readily available, hence the post. So I will email them directly. .eb
Well, to contact their sales, I need to accept their newsletter. That's absurd. So, I searched their fonts.. and they don't have "Cynder" listed. @ Affinity team : please help me understand what is happening here. Why are these fonts locked to Affinity tools ? Why would you need the staff to understand that Monotype has licensed those fonts only as specified in the licensing terms? .eb
@R C-R Since your reply feels more like a snark comment than a genuine question.. if you can't help and you're not capable of understanding the question not that this would be basic knowledge the business should have to provide.. it would be appreciated if you avoided posting.@carl123 Thanks for pointing out the correct place to post Carl. I'll remember that. .affonts are locked to Affinity tools. Hence your post is missing the point. I can not use an .affont in a website. Quote 20 years of technical 3d, tool dev, tech art experience. I wasn't trying to be snarky. I'm just curious about what you think the staff could say about why Serif could not include more liberal licensing terms than what Monotype permitted them to include, other than that it would cost someone (Serif, Monotype, or users) more for a more liberal license. Unfortunately, none of the Affinity Tools are a website builder application E.g. You can create graphics that use the Cynder font to use on websites but to use the font as text on a website you must have the font installed as a font that is accessible from your website builder application. Affont files are fully usable for the output formats needed for Publisher, APhoto and Designer but not available for other applications to access I would seek the font (or an alternative) elsewhere, which means you would likely need to purchase it. I don't think this is an Affinity issue Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. .eb
I can understand that it could have cost too much for wider licensing.. that's 100% not a problem ... and locking it to affinity tools makes sense for marketing, ... but to not have additional licensing available by either business is quite odd. firstdefence
I'd love to see the New World Order try and take over software and try to unify formats, from brushes to fonts lol! they'd give up for sure. Why not look for a facsimile font, one that approximates the cynder font, I'm sure there are fonts that look a lot like it. I find it weird, that to the search engines, the font Cynder is non-existent. I'm not sure it would make sense for Serif to offer additional licenses for any of those fonts but it does seem odd that Monotype does not seem to, at least for most of them, Aeroko being an exception. Several of the others are available from various sources other than Monotype, usually with a free for personal use license & a link to how to purchase a commercial use license that is not from Monotype. So I wonder if some of these fonts are not actually from Monotype but possibly are sub-licensed to that foundry for bundled deals like this. Overall, quite confusing....
