The file indudes features from a later version of Affinity in 2.1.1

Recommended Posts

Okay
With v2 i had a rough start but i'm now at the tipping point of abandoning affinity.

I was working on my laptop on an document with photo 2.1.1
Then I loaded the file on my desktop pc with 2.1.1 and getting this error mesage: "The file indudes features from a later version of Affinity"

I'm sorry but WTF?

This and so many other problems (especially the extremly bad performance and stability on windows)...
You wehere the choosen one affinity. But now you turned to the bug side.

Hi Quacklin42,

Welcome to the forums :)

Sorry to hear you are having issues opening your file please could you provide a screenshot that shows the version number of Affinity Photo on both computers? Please could you also provide a copy of the file in question so I can look into this further with you?

Thanks
C

Hi @Quacklin42,

The file will open in the current v2.2 Beta but copy-pasting back to v2.1.1 unfortunately converts your curve layers to an image layer...

Affinity Designer 2.5.5 | Affinity Photo 2.5.5 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.5
Affinity Designer Beta 2.6.0.2861 | Affinity Photo Beta 2.6.0.2861 | Affinity Publisher Beta 2.6.0.2861

MacBook Pro M3 Max, 36 GB Unified Memory, macOS Sonoma 14.6.1, Magic Mouse
HP ENVY x360, 8 GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 5 2500U, Windows 10 Home, Logitech Mouse

I’ve just tried to Open the example file into Photo, Designer and Publisher (all 2.1.1) on my Windows 10 laptop and I got the same message as the OP each time. (Trying to Place the same file instead of Open got me a similar message, as did “Add Pages from File” in Publisher.)

The same with Affinity 2.1.1 on Mac Monterey 12.6.8, for all tests described here above.

Affinity Suite 2.5 – Monterey 12.7.5 – MacBookPro 14" 2021 M1 Pro 16Go/1To

I apologise for any approximations in my English. It is not my mother tongue.

@Serif: finally bring backwards-compatibility! at least within the same major version.
(no discussion please: this IS possible by e.g. using XML for metadata: XML-tags, elements or attributes which are unknown to the old version are simply skipped/ignored - still better than losing the whole work.
