pruus Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 Wish 1: I hope that it is possible to add some functions to measurements. I would like the copy a measurement to clipboard, so I can easily copy this to an design. Please, now I have to write it down and put in manually, with all the mistakes. See screendump. Wish 2: I would like the let stay all the measurements on one layer. So I could make more than one measurements. These will be placed in a group.

pruus Posted July 26, 2023 Author Posted July 26, 2023 Since than, the measuring tools is implemented. Very good. But it can be better. Affinity can do better. So my wish differs.
GarryP Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 I think the point that Pšenda was trying to make is that functionality similar to what you have described has been requested many times before and that another new thread requesting the same thing was not really necessary. Being able to copy the measurement to the clipboard and then pasting it into the design would be less convenient than a ‘real’ dimensioning tool, the likes of which has already been requested. Placing new measurements in a group would be something the user could do with the existing functionalities, such as “Insert inside the selection”. Pšenda and pruus 2

For the purpose you describe/request here, a real "Dimensioning" Tool would be useful (as Gary also writes). Copying to the clipboard would make it easier to enter the size of the dimension and enter a value for its display, which I currently solve using snapping (position and size of the dimension), and then copy hers size/length to clipboard for display value of dimension. For example, just now I wanted to add a contour to a shape to exactly fill the gap to a neighboring object. The measurement tool accurately measured the gap (4.724mm) and it would have been convenient to copy that to the clipboard, and paste the value straight into the Contour tool.
