is there any option to export as a Tif file instead of Tiff?

Recommended Posts

Hi @Sujeesh Krishna,

There isn't, however, you should be able to simply batch rename your exported .tiff files to .tif in Windows Explorer or the Finder depending on your OS. What is the logic for wanting .tif files, is it because the company still use an older file system, like FAT with an 8.3 naming convention or for some other reason?

Hi Hangman,

Our website supports only .tif format files.

Hi @Sujeesh Krishna,

Out of complete curiosity, why are you using .tif files on a website rather than JPEG or PNG files?

Have you tried simply renaming a .tiff file to a .tif file?

If you specify the extension (.tif) when you export the file it will not be changed to .tiff

i.e. It will only default to using .tiff if you don't specify the extension

On Mac, you get the following message...

We have lots of logo tracing work every day so all file renaming additional work.

There are many free batch renaming utilities available on the net.
You could also use xnviewmp(free for personal use) where that also is available.

As I understand it (from a quick "Google") .tif and .tiff files are not actually the same, so it may be necessary to use a converter, rather than just renaming them.

"One of the key differences between TIF and TIFF is that TIF is a proprietary file format owned by Adobe, while TIFF is an open standard file format that can be used on any platform. TIFF files also include features such as lossless compression, multiple layers and transparency support, and increased file sizes."

Affinity Publisher 2 : Affinity Photo 2 : Affinity Designer 2 : (latest release versions) on desktop and iPad

As do TIF files, mentioned just above the quote you've referenced. For the OP's use case, i.e., Chromojet printing, changing the file extension from TIFF to TIF is not going to have any detrimental effect on the file...

It's a matter of setup what the website services do accepts here, so it could be easily setup to accept both ".tif" and ".tiff" files.

We are using the same .tif file format for production. (Chromojet).

AFAIK Chromojet RIPs do accepts ".tiff" files too ...

Hi

I am using the latest and old versions of affinity designer in our company. I have to export all the files in tif format. Is there any option to export as a Tif file instead of Tiff?

Thanks & Regards

Sujeesh.

This is IMHO very annoying. The iPad version(s) of Affinity software do export TIF(F) files with the .tif extension (one f). That means that when I work on a .afphoto file on my iPad and e.g. work on it later on the desktop, I get different versions when exporting as TIFF for use in other applications, one as .TIFF and the other as .TIF.
That is not good, I worked on the same original file and want interchangeable exports, not two different extensions that I have to rename or sort out later. IMHO renaming should not be needed anyhow, by the way. Just use the industry standard .tif extension.

Please have a look at that, it seems simple enough to remedie. If you need backward compatibility or have another reason to use the .TIFF extension,  just add a .TIFF / .TIF selection option on export, but give us .TIF as option on all software, iPAD & Desktop.
