Solved: Beta versions ignore macOS Accent color setting

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

this has bugged me for a while now, but it still seems to be present in the new betas. It seems that at least on my system, the beta versions of all three Affinity applications use accent colors that cannot be changed by the macOS Appearance options in System Settings. In both Designer and Publisher, menu items and some other selected UI elements are always shown in red. In Photo, they're shown in yellow.

Now, I'd expect this to happen when in macOS, under System Settings > Appearance > Accent color is set to Multicolor because with this, applications can use their own individual color. However, even when I change this setting to some specific value (like e.g. Blue or Graphite), I am still unable to override the color used in the Affinity betas (but it works for all other apps on my Mac). The release versions of the suite don't show this behavior.

Is it only my machine or do you experience this as well? Is there any way to fix this?

Cheers

Hi @EmT! I'm on macOS Ventura 13.4, but just so you know, I'm running it on an unsupported Mac via OCLP. I was however able to resolve the problem by doing a full factory reset of all Affinity beta apps via the Clear User Data dialog. After restarting each app, everything was back to normal. It's sad because now I lost all my settings, brushes, assets etc. But at least it worked. Thank you!

Perhaps try Settings, Beta Apps, Import from retail?

Hey @walt.farrell, thanks for reminding me that this feature exists! I just tried it for the first time and it worked surprisingly well. The problem is that I had set up my betas in a significantly different way than the retail versions; for example, I had specific assets for testing purposes and the panel layout was different, too. Thank you anyway for pointing out this option, it's certainly better than starting from scratch!
