Asking questions about technique

Recommended Posts

All these forums seem to be for bug reporting and features and so on. How do I use feature X. Where do photogaphers who use Affinity Photo gather so I can ask technique questions. For example "What is the best way to do an Ansel Adams looking B&W picture with Affinity"? Would that be this forum or Dpreview or where?

Second along a similar vein. The help for Afinity Photo is all about features and ordered by feature. If I want to learn "how to best use Affinity Photo's features" that is for Afinity Photo 2 and. doesn't start with "how to open a file" and "how to use a menu" but is more aimed at the post-beginner user, where do I go? Can you suggest a specific web site, youtube series, or even book?

APhoto, ADesigner and APublisher Workbook. Unfortunately, they are said to be no longer available.

You can also use external search engines to search the forum, which usually provide more relevant results even for general/non-specific questions.
https://www.google.com/search?q=What+is+the+best+way+to+do+an+Ansel+Adams+looking+B/W+picture+with+Affinity+site:https://forum.affinity.serif.com

By editing the query, you can then get a link to what you are currently interested in.

Hi Pito Salas,

The best place to ask question such as the one in your example would be the sub forum you posted this thread in(Affinity on Desktop Questions). You might also want to take a look at our tutorials found on our Youtube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@Affinitybyserif/playlists?view=50&sort=dd&shelf_id=2

Thanks

Here, Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows) , is as good a place to ask these sort of questions.

The distilled short version of the "Zone System" of photography was/is 'Expose for the Shadows and Develop for the Highlights'. With today's electric/digital cameras we have to Expose for the Highlight to avoid clipping them. The Curves Adjustment layer is your friend here for the Develop part of the equation.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.5.5 | Affinity Photo 2.5.5 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.5 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
