Affinity Aperture (Lightroom)

Recommended Posts

The teasing continues ?  :D

I spent some times on finding a solution to replace Aperture in my workflow and I must say I'm really disappointed by the current solutions.

I voluntary left aside Adobe but even if the other apps (Darktable, Media Pro, Emulsion, Lyn,...) are interesting, all of them are incomplete in a way or another. At least they all have an evaluation version which is great though.

Knowing the quality of AP & AD, I'm pretty sure an Affinity solution in this domain can be a real hit !

In the case there is a pre-alpha-closed program, I'm your man  :P !

Try Capture 1 - I was also very sad when they stopped working on Aperture. I had previously used C1 but also gave Lightroom a try. I'm my opinion LR is too limited in function and workspace. Possibly great for people who haven't used something better. C1 is a similar workflow to Aperture. Better quality file output than all the rest and highly customisable so you can make it work the way you want. Multi screen, easy camera tethering and control and flawless colour management. Masked layer adjustments. Good support as well.

I'm also eagerly waiting to see what Affinity does.

Yup, this is almost the holy grail for photographers out there who don't want to get into bed with Adobe. I'm sticking with Aperture for now as it still works fine although I will be looking to migrate to a serious alternative when available and given what I have seen of Photo, I can't wait for the Affinity app.

I'm looking forward to any future beta or even a thread where we can post a wish list.

@stubborndog & donka

Yes, I had a look at Capture One for the RAW development part but I finally chose DxO.

Capture One is clearly very powerful but I think, DxO is better at lenses corrections and noise reduction.

Since I'm more on architectural/city photos, in my opinion, it was a better choice.

The main problem with DxO is the lack of masks and local adjustments (and some other unbelievable small flaws) but this is where Affinity Photo takes place  :)

About a year ago i installed 16gigs of RAM in my iMac specifically to aid performance with Aperture. Since upgrading to El Capitan, things have really slowed down - I'm waiting upwards of ten seconds to load 24mps images which used to just snap in with absolutely no lag whatsoever. Ten seconds doesn't sound much but with 200+ images to sort and edit, its a real bummer and takes the gloss off my photography. I would happily tear a new one on the guy (or gal) at Apple who decided to dump Aperture.

My strategy, having been very pleased with Affinity Photo and Designer, is to stick with a very slow Aperture and wait for the Affinity product but I've got to admit it cannot come soon enough!
