I am driven crazy by this. I do a very repetitive job for a client that involves lining up two parallel items. I have made a custom 512 pixel grid for my 2048 pixel window. Great EXCEPT Each new window I need to select the custom grid or I get the automatic one. Am I missing something or do the coders not think we ever do repetitive work?

Affinity Aperture (Lightroom)

Try Capture 1 - I was also very sad when they stopped working on Aperture. I had previously used C1 but also gave Lightroom a try. I'm my opinion LR is too limited in function and workspace. Possibly great for people who haven't used something better. C1 is a similar workflow to Aperture. Better quality file output than all the rest and highly customisable so you can make it work the way you want. Multi screen, easy camera tethering and control and flawless colour management. Masked layer adjustments. Good support as well. I'm also eagerly waiting to see what Affinity does. -
The main reason I drop out of affinity and go back to another popular bit of software is the non-sticky settings and it seems I'm not alone. Many of us do repeat tasks and like the previously used setting to be the starting point not 0 each time. Likewise the brushes. I work mostly using soft brushes and each change they revert to hard. I am happy to see custom shortcuts. I haven't found a way to hide the marquee / marching ants while keeping the selection when you want to adjust an area and see how it blends. Peter

custom keyboard shortcuts?
stubborndog replied to safoster71's topic in [ARCHIVE] Photo beta on macOS threads
This is one of the main reasons I don't always use AP. I am used to customising PS and C1 so I can work quickly. While on this topic PS has sticky settings - so if I reuse a filter the last settings will be there. Don't get me started on the un sticky brushes. Always back to a small hard edge arrrrgh -
It freezes at start on el capitan. Fortunately I have another computer with Yosemite.

I almost always use soft brushes and each time I change tool AP reverts to some default hard edge brush. I have made my own palette of brushes to work from but each switch I am back to a hard brush and I can't see a way to make it only use my custom set or to make the brush sticky so when I go back to clone say from paint the last clone brush I used is still selected. It's a small inconvenience on a little job but makes you want to shoot yourself on a big day.

I have read a few posts about the RAW persona but no matter how good it gets would rarely use it if it remains a one shot at a time thing since my workflow is all RAW files and I start with either Aperture or Capture 1 to tether or ingest then sort and do as much adjustment as possible before using AP for final local and masked work. If however it were a space that could tether sort etc that would be amazing having one piece of software from A-Z. Capture 1 is excellent in every respect except smooth workflow but Aperture is really a winner in that department making it easy to shoot, sort, adjust, email samples to clients, edit in external editors, use plugins etc. Unfortunately they are dropping it. Maybe you have big plans in this area. If not it will simply be Capture 1, LR has some good gimmicks but overall the files just aren't as nice. Just hoping this RAW persona becomes the missing link.

The Transform panel
stubborndog replied to MikeFromMesa's topic in [ARCHIVE] Photo beta on macOS threads
I have got my head around the standard transform and the liquify but can't find how to correct (or exaggerate) perspective. Fo example keystone? -
I have figured out how to do most things but the one that I haven't and that drives me nuts are the brushes. I know how to customise them and to make a custom collection of my most used but when I leave a brush say to paint a mask, do something else then come back to repaint my brush has gone back to a small hard edged one so I need to reselect it change size a bit and then paint. Most other apps it remembers and you return to the same brush. I haven't found a setting yet and on a big job I quickly switch back to another app.

Toggle view of adjustments

I agree the saving is convoluted in that if you open a .jpg or .tif and res save you get an affinity file and have to export to get back to .jpg or .tif love those compact layered affinity files but not sure my clients are ready. Could be I'm missing something though.

Toggle view of adjustments
stubborndog replied to cadobir's topic in [ARCHIVE] Photo beta on macOS threads
In Aperture you can easily see the image with no adjustments and ALSO toggle individual adjustments on and off. No other software I know makes it this easy to see what you're doing. Now they are discontinuing Aperture, neeglected but full of good ideas.- 7 replies

I also find the colour management disconcerting since I have not found an info window that tells me what space the current file is in. I have to output to a variety of spaces depending on the client and it is convenient to see what is going on at import and export.

I second this, it is one of my most used tools, and not being able to freehand select is a pain. I use it both for precise selections but also very loose and spontaneous ones that are later feathered. I PS the pen tool is easily converted to a selection but I haven't found the way yet with Affinity. That would be a workaround but not the same as being able to dray a little line to add or subtract exactly where you want. On other notes I find affinity's refine better.
