Any kind of import crashes everything, Designer V2, Photo V2 and Publisher V2.

Whether assets, brushes or color palettes, the software closes immediately without notice. All three, Designer, Photo and Publisher.

Software:
latest versions of affinity 2 for windows

Hardware:
Microsoft Surface 8 Pro
Processor 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1135G7 @ 2.40GHz 2.42 GHz
RAM 16.0 GB
System type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch input Support for pen and touch input with 10 touch points

Windows:
Windows 11 Home edition
Version 22H2
Installed on 10/15/2022
Operating system build 22621.1778
Performance Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22642.1000.0

All, but really all suggested support measures have been implemented:
1. reset Affinity
2. .Net repair tool
3. sfc /scannow (scan)
4. dism.exe /online/ cleanup-image/restorehealth (Repair)
5. reinstall directx12
6. reinstall .Netframe 4.8
7. reinstall visual
8. unistall/reinstall all affinity apps
9. hardware acceleration sometimes on, sometimes off, same error
10. update all drivers (graphic drivers etc)
11. update windows and all components
and many more attempts, many days of work and much disappointment. But the apps keep crashing, every time I try to import.

I am at a loss, this is a new Surface Pro that I bought just for Affinity. The only thing I can think of is that this is a bug in the affinity software. Attached are the dmp files. Additionally a text file , listing the windows event viewer at the time of the error. I hope for quick help. Thanks.

Don't know if the surface can run msi/exe versions of the affinities but most likely you run the msix apps and those are sandboxed.
You may try to run as administrator.
Rightclick the affinity icon>run as administrator.

Oh dear, I didn't see that there were different versions to install.

Ok, I have uninstalled all msix versions. I installed the new msi/exe versions. Unfortunately, the problem remains. Designer opened, crash when trying to import. Designer opened as administrator, crash when trying to import. Attached is the event viewer from Windows. The crashreports were not saved now. Are they now saved in a different location than msix?

Yes they are installed in a different part of the system but the common place for the assets, etc. remains the same.
Maybe holding ctrl and clicking the affinity icon and wait till the menu comes up and delete all items, may work.
This will also reset any other setting you made to the affinities.
You may need to do this for all 3 programs.
If this doesn't work, I hope a staff member can shed a light on your issue.

That was true in 2.0, but is no longer true in 2.1.

The MSIX versions store all the information in %USERPROFILE%\.affinity but as of 2.1 the EXE/MSI version use %APPDATA%\Affinity for the user-specific data (such as Assets, Brushes, etc.), as explained in the FAQ:

Hi @KeineAhnungvonNix,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble!

From the information provided, it certainly appears as though the app is failing to write to any of these .propcol files, though I am surprised that resetting these folders has not resolved this issue for you.

Can you please provide a screenshot showing the Clear User Data dialog that appears when holding the CTRL key as the app loads, with the options enabled that you have tried resetting already?

Many thanks in advance :)

Thanks for confirming that for me and the screenshot provided, you certainly seem to have selected the necessary options so I'm sorry to hear this hasn't resolved the issue.

Debugging your crash reports seem to indicate that the application is crashing due to encountering an unknown character when trying to import these files, though it is not specific of the exact origin of this.

Can you please confirm for me:

  • What is your Windows User Profile named? (ie the folder under C:\Users\)
  • What location are the files that you are trying to import stored in?
  • What are the names of the files you are trying to import?
  • Within the Affinity app, are you able to use the My Account dialog to install content from your Affinity Account, or does this fail in a similar way?

Are you able to attach a copy of one of the files that you are importing when this crash occurs here for me please?

Many thanks once again!

YEAH!!! In fact, that was the problem.

All the time I tried to import the files via my network. (Importing via my Affinity account had always worked.) Now I copied the files to a USB stick - and what happened? It worked. So simple. It's strange that it doesn't work over the network - but it doesn't matter.  Now I know the problem.

Thank you all very much for the great and fast support!!! - Now I can finally work outside 😄😄
