Layer Effects and Decorations

Hi,

I added some layer effects to the text in Publisher 2.0 (Win x64) and then wanted to create a yellow background (stripes) bellow it. After I clicked on "Decorations > Fill" all layer effects were moved to the decorations as you can see on the bottom of the image.

1. Am I missing something;
2. Is this intentionally, or
3. is it a bug?

Hi @Petar Petrenko,

If I've understood your current document setup correctly, any FX applied to a Text Frame object will apply these FX to all of the text within the frame, including the decorations and this is expected behaviour.

If you don't wish for these FX to apply to certain areas of text/decorations, I'd recommend creating a separate Text Frame / Artistic Text object which does not have these FX applied, for your decorations etc.

It sounds like you have copied and pasted the layer fx to the rectangles.

No, I applied those layer effects to a text in a text frame and then applied "Decorations > Fill" to the text.

I wanted to get this effect:

Ok the only way to do that is to create a rectangle and place it behind the text and group the text and the rectaangle so they move together should you need to reposition them or resize them.

Yes, I figured it out. It's the only solution. I wish decorations to be part of character formating, too.

You can assign a background colour to a character style – but this does not change your situation. A layer effect gets applied to the entire layer, not to a certain property only of that layer.
