orangefizz Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 And on a related topic, I've found similar oddities when pasting copied items into documents: sometimes the pasted item will be way off-center (sometimes almost off the artboard). My sense is this is also related to where I may have last clicked in that document. The default should always be dead center unless I'm in copy/pasting in the same document. This depends on both the size and resolution of the source and destination documents, e.g., Example 1 - Same Source and Destination Document DPI Source Document Document - 300 mm x 300 mm @ 300 dpi Source Object - Ellipse 200 mm x 200 mm with it's centre point at 150 mm x 150 mm Destination Document Document - 240 mm x 240 mm @ 300 dpi Pasted Object - Ellipse 200 mm x 200 mm it's centre point will remain at 150 mm x 150 mm and subsequently appear off centre Example 2 - Different Source and Destination Document DPI The pasted position in the destination document will be the same as the source position in the source document in pixels Source Document Document - 4" x 4" (288 px x 288 px) @ 72 dpi Source Object - Ellipse 2" x 2" (144 px x 144 px) with it's centre point at 144 px x 144 px Destination Document Document - 4" x 4" (1,200 px x 1,200 px) @ 300 dpi Pasted Object - Ellipse 2" x 2" (144 px x 144 px) with it's centre point at 144 px x 144 px will subsequently appear off centre Quote Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 Affinity Designer 2.6.2 (3213) Beta | Affinity Photo 2.6.2 (3213) Beta | Affinity Publisher 2.6.2 (3213) Beta MacBook Pro M3 Max, 36 GB Unified Memory, macOS Sonoma 14.6.1, Magic Mouse HP ENVY x360, 8 GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 5 2500U, Windows 10 Home, Logitech Mouse
Staff EmT Posted April 18, 2023 Staff Posted April 18, 2023 @orangefizz @Hangman I've split this issue into a new thread from here. @orangefizz Where possible it is best to create a seperate thread for any new issues to keep the answers clear. In regard to this issue, where are you copying the items from? If it is from one affinity file into another then item will be pasted maintaining the original location. If it is not from our apps then the metadata is not retained and will be pasted in the centre. Most of the time the copied square (around 150x150 pixels) from the larger document is pasted into the center of the smaller document, but the problem is *it's inconsistent*. Sometimes it will paste it down with only ~60 pixels showing above the bottom, other times way off to the right. Then it will magically start pasting it into the center again. I'm not copying the entire 1025x1024 document, just a portion (that is smaller than the dimensions of the smaller document, so centering the paste should not be posing a problem). It's a bug. Staff EmT Posted April 18, 2023 Staff Posted April 18, 2023 When pasting between Affinity files, the XY location is maintained where possible, if the XY location is outside the document size then the object in pasted in the centre of the document. This has not been my experience, I get inconsistent paste locations when the copied selection is definitely smaller. I'm gonna make a wild stab in the dark and suggest that it might have some relation to the paint brush ghost strokes bug I posted about; it could be that clicking in the destination doc might somehow be affect where AP is pasting the new pixels. Staff EmT Posted April 18, 2023 Staff Posted April 18, 2023 What type of object are you pasting? Can you provide a screen recording of the paste behaviour you are seeing in action, it would help if you can show rulers and the transform panel. Your other issue is specific to the shift constraint modifier and should not be related.
