But I agree with the OP what's the point of a vector app with no vector pattern abilities, "it's like grandma having wheels

Raster patterns already exist; you can tile an image file as a fill or stroke (using the Fill Tool, select "Bitmap" for the "Type").

Vector patterns are still missing.

 

However, I don't believe that is the core of what is being requested here, but rather the ability to store those patterns on a swatch palette... which is already possible:

  1. Create an object and use the Fill Tool to assign that bitmap fill to the object.
  2. Make sure the target palette is selected on the Swatches panel.
  3. Click the "Add current fill to the palette" button.

Thanks, altought this is a bit confusion because I have to select Fill tool again to add the pattern correctly, If I select this pattern with any tool the object get a solid colur
