Affinity Photo 2.0 Crashing 3 or 4 times per day. Fresh install.

Recommended Posts

It´s getting harder and harder to use Affinity Photo at work.

To solve my crashing problems, i´ve tried a clean install of Affinity 2.0 suite.

  • Fresh Windows 11 Installation (not-Insider, beta or anything... just normal Windows 11)
  • Fresh nVidia Driver installation (nVidia Studio 528.49) - GPU is a GTX 1060 Ti
  • Tested Hardware Accel ON and OFF, but still crashes a lot.
  • Minnimun software installation, just things I really need to work, like Blender 3D, Office Suite and FontBase.

Photo is crashing 3 or 4 times per day, making it harder to work. Most crashes happens righly after saving, exporting or opening a file (but I can just reopen Photo and the same file can be opened without a problem).

Attached 8 Crash logs... that occurred in the last 3 days.

I hope it helps... because I´m really having a hard time to work, and Affinity Suite are my main tools.

Sadly, no response from Serif, and I don´t know what to blame, since it´s a new installation of Windows 11.

Attaching more 6 crash logs, from the last 3 days. Last one crashed opening the "New File" dialog.

Putting all my hopes in the 2.1 version, whenever it is released.

Have you tried a reset? Hold control when you start it up.

There are also windows repair options in settings.

Just did format my Windows 11 Instalation, and the crashes are still happening. So I don´t think WIndows Repair will do any good.

But I can try a reset on Affinity Photo. Will do that.

Will do that. A file created on Beta, can be reopened on the non-beta version, if needed?

Not here on Mac going from the beta (2.1.0.1713) to the current retail version (2.0.4). You might be able to open with a new retail version (2.1.x) but your best bet is to assume not.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Hi @raphaelbonelli,

Sorry for the delay, I had to get the QA team to debug your crash report.

Do you have any drawing tablets connected to your PC?  The DMP file seems to reference a mouse event, so it would be worth reinstalling any mouse or tablet drivers and seeing if the app stops crashing.

Yes! I do have a Wacom installed. I´ll try to reinstall the tablet drivers!

Thanks.

Thanks.

Got two messagens, "The operation completed successfully" to the first command, and then something like "Verification 100% complete - The Windows Resources Protection didn't find any integrity violations" (my Windows 11 is in portugueses, so I´m trying to translate the message.

Will try to work today and see if I got any new crashes.

Thanks a lot Richard.

Sadly... still crashing after all that. :(

Crashed right after opening an image and starting to create a selection with Selection Brush.

After reinstalling all the Affinity 2 apps, I got two days without crashing and today my Affinity start crashing again (three times today).

What changed today... I´ve checked the history for Windows Updates and today a new update for .NET Framework was release ((KB5022497)).

Is there any chance that .NET Framework updates are crashing Affinity Photo again, like happened with font menu in Affinity 1?

I'm having similar very very regular crashes. I have to basically hit save every time I change anything because it could crash at any moment. I had so few crashes with Affinity Photo V1.x that I'm really not used to dealing with this. Attached are some crash reports. Seems to most happen when I drag and drop an image into Affinity Photo.
