Raphael Bonelli Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 It´s getting harder and harder to use Affinity Photo at work. To solve my crashing problems, i´ve tried a clean install of Affinity 2.0 suite. Fresh Windows 11 Installation (not-Insider, beta or anything... just normal Windows 11) Fresh nVidia Driver installation (nVidia Studio 528.49) - GPU is a GTX 1060 Ti Tested Hardware Accel ON and OFF, but still crashes a lot. Minnimun software installation, just things I really need to work, like Blender 3D, Office Suite and FontBase. Photo is crashing 3 or 4 times per day, making it harder to work. Most crashes happens righly after saving, exporting or opening a file (but I can just reopen Photo and the same file can be opened without a problem). Attached 8 Crash logs... that occurred in the last 3 days. I hope it helps... because I´m really having a hard time to work, and Affinity Suite are my main tools. 3e5682ea-4cbc-4d75-a00a-054011e163c0.dmp 6df2c884-c60b-4ae0-84a2-bf734044e7c9.dmp 7b8d88fa-96b7-4799-815a-803e0e7f3eb4.dmp 2924ea1b-e145-4126-870e-866cfbe37871.dmp 53527e1a-b6aa-498a-975e-afd73955c8f2.dmp ac5781c6-ac9c-4325-b22c-ae2e9688252f.dmp bb957a24-e2aa-4022-9e57-a1f794067832.dmp d8a5cf11-5e5b-4b9e-8851-078b6e87949a.dmp Quote
Raphael Bonelli Posted March 3, 2023 Author Posted March 3, 2023 Sadly, no response from Serif, and I don´t know what to blame, since it´s a new installation of Windows 11. Attaching more 6 crash logs, from the last 3 days. Last one crashed opening the "New File" dialog. Putting all my hopes in the 2.1 version, whenever it is released. 666ff7fc-394d-44f0-a8af-eaf19284c01d.dmp 718d3a3c-889e-4db3-a540-9b1371391c29.dmp 8609e14d-02a1-47c7-a71b-a2d092a264fb.dmp 92977ac0-0abf-4ae0-9adf-21cbe876934a.dmp b6d007af-ac93-47e4-a305-421555c23f7c.dmp d3c81494-d491-4202-bd0a-19c72d09fffe.dmp Quote
RichardMH Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 Have you tried a reset? Hold control when you start it up. There are also windows repair options in settings. Could try the beta to see if they have fixed things. It runs parallel to the retail. Quote

But I can try a reset on Affinity Photo. Will do that. Quote

Not here on Mac going from the beta (2.1.0.1713) to the current retail version (2.0.4). You might be able to open with a new retail version (2.1.x) but your best bet is to assume not. Raphael Bonelli 1 Quote Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
RichardMH Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 Same on Windows. Can't open 2.1.0.1714 in 2.0.4.1701. Still be worth a go to help narrow down where the problem is. Can often send a tiff or psd. Raphael Bonelli 1 Quote
RichardMH Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 When you reinstalled the nvidia drivers did you do a clean install? Geforce Experience has this option. (Think its in custom installation) Raphael Bonelli 1 Quote
Staff stokerg Posted March 6, 2023 Staff Posted March 6, 2023 Hi @raphaelbonelli, Sorry for the delay, I had to get the QA team to debug your crash report. Do you have any drawing tablets connected to your PC? The DMP file seems to reference a mouse event, so it would be worth reinstalling any mouse or tablet drivers and seeing if the app stops crashing. Quote

I´ll try to reinstall the tablet drivers! Thanks. stokerg 1 Quote
Raphael Bonelli Posted March 7, 2023 Author Posted March 7, 2023 Gone full radical and fully removed my Wacom Tablet (and uninstalled the drivers). But Affinity Photo still crashed some hours later, right after opening two normal PNG files and trying to copy paste one of them. Crash log attached. 90cd8795-c58d-45f0-a467-18068bffed7b.dmp Quote
Raphael Bonelli Posted March 9, 2023 Author Posted March 9, 2023 New try... Set Processor to Warp, Hardware Acceleration OFF. No Wacom tablet installed. I really don´t know what to do anymore. Right now, it´s becoming impossible to work with Affinity Photo. Still crashing. ad3840ca-8104-419c-abcd-491f4f6aaccb.dmp Quote

Got two messagens, "The operation completed successfully" to the first command, and then something like "Verification 100% complete - The Windows Resources Protection didn't find any integrity violations" (my Windows 11 is in portugueses, so I´m trying to translate the message. Will try to work today and see if I got any new crashes. Thanks a lot Richard. Quote

Raphael Bonelli Posted March 15, 2023 Author Posted March 15, 2023 Reinstalled all my Affinity 2.0 apps. Changed my keyboard and mouse to wired ones and entirely removed my Wacom tablet. Reinstalled nVidia drivers. ...still crashing. This time, while drawing a Circle. 525348c0-c918-4dbc-85ce-61722bf2cfb4.dmp Quote
Raphael Bonelli Posted March 15, 2023 Author Posted March 15, 2023 After reinstalling all the Affinity 2 apps, I got two days without crashing and today my Affinity start crashing again (three times today). What changed today... I´ve checked the history for Windows Updates and today a new update for .NET Framework was release ((KB5022497)). Is there any chance that .NET Framework updates are crashing Affinity Photo again, like happened with font menu in Affinity 1? Quote
jonheal Posted March 16, 2023 Posted March 16, 2023 Lots of crashes in Windows 10 and 11 here, too, although I have been working on big files, so probably hammering it pretty good. It's interesting that crashes don't write anything to the Windows Application Event Log. 1fb37bf3-20c7-4f21-9b16-ab89f4123edf.dmp Quote

alexleonard Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 I'm having similar very very regular crashes. I have to basically hit save every time I change anything because it could crash at any moment. I had so few crashes with Affinity Photo V1.x that I'm really not used to dealing with this. Attached are some crash reports. Seems to most happen when I drag and drop an image into Affinity Photo. 3e93ff74-0b03-41ac-ab00-0539e3df4747.dmp 5527d46c-6529-46bb-bd26-70d631e0392b.dmp a3876046-bf26-41e4-b560-7d0b308b9b5f.dmp Raphael Bonelli 1 Quote
Raphael Bonelli Posted September 20, 2024 Author Posted September 20, 2024 Because of those crashes, I´ve abandoned Affinity for Adobe again. But now we are trying to get back to Affinity here in our bureau, but after a week working again with Affinity software, Photo is still crashing sometimes when I close open files. Not a warning, no dialog, no error... just closes the software sometimes when I close a file. More than a year and still doing that. (nVidia Drivers and Windows and Affinity... everything is fully updated). Quote
