I have a number of photos in a folder for stacking. In Finder (I am using a Mac) these are ordered according to date created which is one of the columns I have set up on Finder.  I open 'New stack' in Affinity Photo and select add and the 'open ' window appears but the files are ordered differently and there is no 'Date created column' to reorder them as they appear in Finder. I have been unable to find any way to change this appearance in Affinity. Is this possible and if so how?

This is different in Windows 10. The Open dialog AP uses seems to be a File Explorer window. If it's not a File Explorer window it is identical, down to all the control, settings, ect.

Hi Stuart, when you have the Open dialog on your screen, click the list icon and choose List from the menu. Then right click any of the column headings and choose Date Created to add that column to the list view. Then you'll be able to sort by date created. This is a standard feature of macOS and works in any application.

Thank you so much for this, for some reason I just didn't find this solution and yet very familiar with Finder. I knew there would be a simple explanation. I'll put it down to a senior moment!

I have just tried this and it doesn't behave as I expected. I had assumed it would add an additional column to the window (as it does in Finder) but it does not. I can, however, sort the left most column by date so have I interpreted your explanation incorrectly?1578380730_Screenshot2023-02-23at19_18_34.thumb.png.03eca64a7f818bc8b835077264da0317.png

You're in the "Arranged by Date" mode.
Ctrl-click on the column heading to add more columns.

It's a standard macOS filesystem Open dialog. It isn't affected by or connected with your Finder settings, although the views are very similar.

There are two buttons to configure it:

The left one lets you view as Icons, List or Columns. If you choose List, you can then click the the second button:

and group by any of the options listed

I'm not absolutely sure, but I think the grouping that one gets when sorting by date may be a new thing in macOS Ventura. I get the same thing in other apps (eg Pages) so it's nothing to do with the Affinity suite.

Ahhh.. my penny has dropped.

In the File Open dialog in list view, if you cntrl-click (or right-click, or secondary click with a trackpad) on any of the column headers, there's a drop-down via which you can choose which columns to display:

No, it's old. But in older OS versions it's called Arranged By.
I don't remember when exactly it first appeared as I rarely ever use this mode, but it's in El Capitan and likely was there before that.
