Working project disappeared

Recommended Posts

Hello, I recently started using Affinity Photo 2, I have some issue but could not find any solution.

I was working on a file and I had some layers. I opened another file for a quick editing and the first project disappeared, I looked everywhere but to no avail.

Is it a default behavior? did it just deleted the previous project without asking for save?

In addition, I would like to have all the projects on different windows (never docked). At the moment I click under Window > Floating Window for each file, but I would like to have it by default. Is it possible?

Last thing, how do I drag a layer or a portion of image from a file to another? If I drag a layer onto another file the icon changes to the green + but when I release the button nothing happen. If I select a portion of image and use the move tool it moves ALL the image instead of the selected portion and still I can't drag it into the other file. How can I do that?

Thank you

welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

Are you sure that you don't have multiple document tabs open, still, and you just need to select the other tab? They would be located below the Context Toolbar (if displayed) or the Toolbar (if the Context Toolbar is not displayed).

Or, if you had the window floating, and minimized it, perhaps you need to use the Window menu to find it again?

That sounds like you might have an Image layer rather than a Pixel layer. See the Layers panel to determine what you have.

As for dragging between open documents, are you using Windows or Mac? I'm not certain from your description.

Hello, I'm on macOS

This is a video of the problems I faced: Video

At first you can see, when I open the second file, the first one simply disappear. There is no tab or indicator to switch to. I had to join all windows into one to find it.

In the first try you can see I'm using the lasso tool to take aportion of the picture and drag it onto the other one, but it just go beyond the viewport inside the same window.

Then I try with the layer but after I release with the green plus nothing happens.

Is it possible to always open files as separated windows? I know v2 dismissed separated mode (bad choice) but having to constantly go to the Window menu to float each of them is really exhausting. Is there a solution?

Thank you

I just wanted to report the same issue about floating windows.
To make them floating you have to do it one by one (and when you do it the dimensions of the window is fixed, always the same, they do not adapt to canvas).
Plus when you open a file from Finder it open into the window of the last file active, which automatically disappeat from the opened files.

It's quite annoying when working on several prdocucts in still life photography and you need to have different photos opened, to compare images, and you need to open other files for check details, etc. In my workflow I'd not consider it as a minor bug

Thanks!

Luca

Does anybody knows if this issues are fixed in 2.1? v2 is unusable for me. I needed to go back to v1...

It's still with our developers to be fixed, sorry.

The issue "Float to view loses Window" (REF: AFB-5876) has been fixed by the developers in internal build "2.2.0.1971".
This fix should soon be available as a customer beta and is planned for inclusion in the next customer release.
Customer beta builds are announced here and you can participate by following these instructions.
If you still experience this problem once you are using that build version (or later) please reply to this thread including @Serif Info Bot to notify us.
