import InDesign1.5.indd and ID3.0.indd into Publisher

Recommended Posts

Hello forum

got some very old InDesign files (*.indd) (produced with InDeisgn 1.5 and 3..). Publisher complains that this kind of files are not supported :(

Is there really no way to import/open such InDesign files in Publisher ? I do not own newer versions of InDesign and I try to avoid to subscribe Adobe products.

Thank's in advance!

Ralph

The only way is to rent InDesign and export the old files to IDML files as that is the only format Affinity Publisher can import. Sorry for the bad news.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.5.5 | Affinity Photo 2.5.5 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.5 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

I've seen online services – usually likely print shops and the like – that offer InDesign format conversion and IDML export for a fee.
But it will be likely cheaper to rent InDesign for a month for those $30-something and do it yourself.

If you have exported .PDF from your .INDD files you could open them in Affinity.

Also, there are tools in the web (some online, some free) for conversion of various file types to PDF, some of them seem to convert InDesign files. I haven't tried any of them so I can't recommend any. One of them seems to be this: https://pdf.wondershare.com/indesign/convert-indesign-to-pdf.html

macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1

In InDesign 3.0 there is the possibility to export to "InDesign Exchange Format" . Unfortunately such *.inx files - as well - cannot be opened in Publisher 2.0 :(

No. You need IDML files.

You need at least InDesign CS4 to convert an old InDesign document to IDML.
