Staff Dan C Posted October 13, 2022 Staff Share Posted October 13, 2022 Hi @blackstone, The .Net Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 Update [KB5017271] that you have installed is known to cause issues in Windows 'WPF' apps currently, and this affects more than just the Affinity app. Have you tried removing this update, and the other updates listed in the above FAQ? blackstone
I have removed this update and hide it with the special tool, but the automatic windows update installed it again and again.
Staff Dan C Posted October 14, 2022 Staff Share Posted October 14, 2022 Sorry to hear this, I'd recommend using the steps outlined below to temporarily disable automatic updates in Windows: https://www.tomsguide.com/how-to/how-to-turn-off-automatic-updates-in-windows-10 Quote Please note - I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time. blackstone
Thanks for the tip. But that's not a solution. Windows updates are required for the computer to run stably. Yes, other software works. I don't see an answer from Serif here. Serif has to react sometimes.
Staff Dan C Posted October 14, 2022 Staff Share Posted October 14, 2022 I certainly understand. 5 minutes ago, blackstone said: Yes, other software works As can be seen from the below links, It has been confirmed that this issue affects many WPF apps, not only Affinity (WPF is the framework we use for Affinitys UI): https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/1025021/issue-with-kb5017262-cumulative-update-preview-for.html https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/1027291/issue-with-kb5017262-amp-kb5017270-cause-wpf-appli.html Therefore Microsoft are aware of this issue and should hopefully address it in a future update - without the need for Affinity to be updated to resolve this issue. 7 minutes ago, blackstone said: I don't see an answer from Serif here. Jeffjn
FWIW, I had this issue, at least I assume it was the Net Framework issue, as my laptop had not installed that update and was fine, but my desktop had and would crash whenever I opened a large save file with what looked like a memeory leak. Instead of removing the Net Framework update, I noticed that the 22H2 feature update was pending. I let that install and the issue went away.
