seems I've lost this project twice. First time was  two dozen layers and I thought perhaps I had clicked on the correction layer on top while document was still loading though it was fully displayed. Today, I stopped at less than a dozen layers. Saved as an Affinity file. In attempt to open :

neither has worked. Furthermore,  I can still open layered photoshop files that I haven't converted. Saved as Affinity file and opened it again successfully. I'm going to look closer at my elements.

There have been a few mentions here of Hardware Acceleration causing a corruption of files.

Try turning OFF hardware acceleration to see if that's causing your problem.

My first time in the group, is it appropriate to drop the affinity file here?

Yes, it's even encouraged by staff.

Recoverd file is attached

Saving to NAS or external storage devices is a major factor in file corruption for Affinity files

Always work on a local drive and upload to external drives for backups or long-term storage of the file

Always make backups of the file as you work on it, saving to new file names (e.g. revisions) is highly recommended

Today you were just lucky, most corrupt files are NOT recoverable
