Hi,

Can anyone help. I've been trying to follow a YouTube tutorial video in which you need to make a selection and duplicate it to a new layer and then apply Blur-> Average.to get an average colour of the selected area. When I do this I get a transparent swatch, whereas on the tutorial the swatch is opaque. Attached is a screen shot in which is shown the original selection as well as the selection that has the blur applied.

Thanks

It’s often helpful to have a link to the tutorial in question so that other users can see the exact steps you’re trying to follow. As you’ve indicated, the Average Blur filter should not result in transparency being introduced where there was none previously.

Just guessing that the original selection may have had a serious amount of feathering going on.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Any feathering will result in a translucent average blur, I tried this down to 1%

The average blur on the left has no feathering and the one on the right has 1% feathering. The selection far right marks where I took a selection from.
