After downloading the Monterey update for my Macbook Pro, I've experienced really frustrating problems with Affinity.

The performance has been the same, which is good. But the UI has changed, and I'm not sure if this is a new update or not but:

The top bar of Affinity has gone clear, and it's really hard to see the buttons and it gets distracting. Also, I'm unable to click on the Adjustment, Effects, Styles and Stock tabs near the layers, which forces me to click the icon/symbols below.

This is my mac: MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)

Hi @Nes,

Welcome to the Affinity Forums and I'm sorry to see you're having trouble!

It appears from the Affinity Photo icon as though you may be running an older version of Affinity - can you please open the app and then navigate to Affinity Photo > About in the top menu bar, then provide a screenshot of the dialog that opens for me?

Many thanks in advance :)

Thanks for the screenshot provided :)

Version 1.4.1 was released in January 2016 - so this version is not only out of date, it was created long before macOS Monterey, so I must say I'm not surprised this doesn't work correctly here!

We can look to get you updated to the latest version - do you know if the app was originally purchased from the Mac App Store, or the Affinity Store please?

I'm not actually sure, as a friend gave me this as a gift.

To my knowledge, there is no way permitted by the licensing terms for anyone to give away a copy of the app they have bought for themselves, so you may be using the app in violation of those terms.

If not, you should be able to download the current version, either from the Mac App Store if it is linked to your Apple ID, or directly from Serif's store if you log into your personal account there (if you have one).

I didn't really say that correctly, I meant to say my family member gave me it. They bought it previously, and transferred it properly with the correct product key and everything that they had to do within the terms.

And I also asked them about that, and they kinda just said it's long gone and they don't really know anymore. :\

AFAIK, the licenses are not transferrable.

If you don't have details of how it was originally purchased (5 years ago?) you may not be able to update it to the latest version, which is what you need.

Affinity Photo is currently on sale (Black Friday) so now may be a good time to purchase it "again"

Suggest you purchase it directly from the Affinity website rather than the Apple Store as they will then have your details should you have problems updating in the future

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

I also did realize that and it looks like I’m going to purchase the newest version with the sale. 38 dollars isn’t that much considering how much I used Affinity for the past few months.

thank you guys 🙂
