I am looking at getting Affinity Photo for Mac.  I was going to purchase the software from the apple store but I am seeing some people claim there is a difference in the software if purchased form the App Store versus Affinity directly.  They were old comments so I am wondering if that is still the case and what would I not be able to do if I purchase from the App Store?

Hello @Sohawyer and welcome to the forums.

The most serious difference is that with versions from the Apple and Windows stores, you cannot revert to a previous version if a version does not work as well as the previous version. Updates may be delayed.

I agree with Komatos, and I strongly recommend purchasing direct from Serif/Affinity. While it might seem more convenient to purchase from MAS or Windows stores, you loose control of being able to roll back, as well as updates. When the giants (MAS & Windows) decide something needs updating they push/force it and you may not want it at the time. Something I'm totally against. I decide when and if for my machine.

You can revert to a previous version for Mac Store purchases if you make good backups, like with Time Machine. Otherwise not.

Some users of MAS versions have had problems downloading one or more of the updated versions even after they appear in the store. This usually can be solved by signing out & back into the store, but sometimes other techniques are required.

For this & other reasons, for most users buying directly from Serif is the way to go.
