v_kyr Posted November 13, 2021 Posted November 13, 2021 Place the mouse cursor over a text entry box and the tooltip which popups tells you. - Aka it's width x height, thus first is width! Nikon Girl Posted November 13, 2021 Author Posted November 13, 2021 Thank you. My computer has an accessibility feature for visual impairment in which the mouse size is enhanced and the popup identifiers are not able to be seen when this accessibility feature is in use. Thank you for pointing this out. Quote

APub has a Spread Setup window that can be used to resize all or selected spreads or pages. It has a Portrait checkbox but (at least on my Mac) no popup for the Dimension fields indicating which is height & which is width. (It is however width then height, like all the others.) Nikon Girl Posted November 14, 2021 Author Posted November 14, 2021 I am making adjustments to both the canvas and the document for my project. When I go into the menu to check the settings of each variable, they are always the same despite my canvas having been adjusted as larger than the image. How can I have relative border consistency and guage further adjustments if I can't see the value attributions of each variable? Quote

Nikon Girl Posted November 14, 2021 Author Posted November 14, 2021 This is what the menu looks like for both selections "resize document" and "resize canvas" after I have resized the canvas. Whichever one I manipulate alters the information in both menus to read the same, even though my canvas is clearly larger. Quote

You can turn on rulers, in order to better see how it affects your image in contrast to document/canvas changes. The transform panel should show you the overall size of the selected layer boundaries there. Hangman Posted November 14, 2021 Posted November 14, 2021 Basically, Resize Document will resize the canvas together with all of the objects on it where as Resize Canvas will only resize the canvas leaving objects at their original size... so Document and Canvas will always be the same size, it's the relationship between the document/canvas and the objects on it... resize.mov resize-canvas.mov Quote Affinity Designer 2.5.7 | Affinity Photo 2.5.7 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.7 Affinity Designer Beta 2.6.0.3125 | Affinity Photo Beta 2.6.0.3125 | Affinity Publisher Beta 2.6.0.3125 MacBook Pro M3 Max, 36 GB Unified Memory, macOS Sonoma 14.6.1, Magic Mouse HP ENVY x360, 8 GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 5 2500U, Windows 10 Home, Logitech Mouse
Nikon Girl Posted November 14, 2021 Author Posted November 14, 2021 Why would augmenting my image size influence the canvas size? It does not give the appearance of doing such visually in the software, but the drop down menus indicate numerically that they are synched. Again- I may be missing something quite basic here, but I don't understand why they are two different things, but end up synchronized numerically but not visually? Quote
Hangman Posted November 14, 2021 Posted November 14, 2021 If you have say a 5" x 3.6" photo that fills your canvas, changing the canvas size to 7" x 5" will leave your photo as 5" x 3.6" but make your canvas larger and you will now see a border around your image. Both your canvas and your document are now 7" x 5" but your photo is still 5" x 3.6". Taking the same example above, changing the document size from 5" x 3.6" to 7" x 5" will change both the document and the canvas to 7" x 5", the only difference is that in doing so your original 5" x 3.6" photo will also be scaled up at the same time, so instead of your photo remaining at 5" x 3.6" it is now also 7" x 5". So Resize Canvas is effectively just giving you more space to work whilst leaving your original image unchanged, whereas Resize Document is scaling your image. 35 minutes ago, Nikon Girl said: Why would augmenting my image size influence the canvas size? Because by Resizing your document, you are scaling your image and therefore for all of your image to be visible the canvas needs to resize accordingly. I'm not sure if I'm explaining this particularly well... but if, as @v_kyr suggested, you turn the rulers on in your document it may help to visually see what is happening to your image size when using both Resize Document and Resize Canvas. I think the reason they perhaps don't appear to be synchronized visually is because regardless of the change in document size, the screen view remains at Zoom to Fit even though the physical dimensions of the document are changed. I can understand the logic of that but maybe if the zoom level actually reflected the change in size of the document it would make it more obvious visually but at the same time annoy everyone...
