Staff Sean P Posted August 9, 2021 Staff Posted August 9, 2021 Hi Wilton 33311 How have you installed the fonts onto your iPad? Have you installed them within Affinity > Preferences, or are you using an external application? If you're using an external application what is it?Also when you say you 'Open' is that opening a document from the home screen that was already there, or are you opening by clicking + and then Open From Cloud/Import from Cloud? Does rebooting your iPad help matters at all? Quote
Wilton33311 Posted August 10, 2021 Author Posted August 10, 2021 The fonts were downloaded into my iCloud. Unzipped the in the Affinity app, I went to the settings and loaded the font. I’ve rebotted my iPad a few times. I since then I have downloaded the app iFont and getting that ready to load font into my iPad. Which with nearly 1k fonts feels like it may take all day to load all those profiles. Quote
Heidi_Lynn Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 I’m having the same issue since the update a few days ago. Fonts that are installed via the Affinity Designer app are not loading where as, they were loading fine before the update. The app is also crashing since the update. Super frustrating since I use this program for my business. I understand the fonts can be installed on the iPad itself, but I have thousands of fonts. Too many to have to reinstall. Quote

Thanks for that I'm still struggling to reproduce this here! I'm trying to figure out if this is a problem caused by upgrading with open documents Can you create a new file and access the font (i.e the Adventure Time one that is installed into Affinity causing issues), and does it still show up if you return to the document selection screen and go back into that document? Are you opening a file from the home screen of Affinity by tapping the thumbnail of the document or are you going from '+ > Open/Import from Cloud'? If so does closing that document so it disappears from that screen and then reopening it using '+ > Open/Import from Cloud' then allow the font to show correctly? Quote
Wilton33311 Posted August 10, 2021 Author Posted August 10, 2021 Im opening the files via affinity Home Screen/thumbnails..Unfortunately I couldn’t wait to long and I downloaded iFomt and transferred everything over from my Mac.. and loaded it on my iPad. So now I have all my font back in affinity. I can say that most of my font came from Dafont.com if that any help . Quote
Wilton33311 Posted August 10, 2021 Author Posted August 10, 2021 I went back and tried to load fonts with out I font..but it’s still loaded oh my ipad… I could not get a Font not to load [turn red].. and I was down loading fonts I did not have on my iPad Quote

I think Wilton33311 and I are having the same issue, so I can answer some of these from my experience. It would make sense that it was caused by upgrading with open documents. For me I cannot access my fonts in a document that was already created before the update, but i can access them in a new document. Going out of the corrupt document and then back into it does not fix anything. The fonts are still not accessible in the corrupt document. The files on my end are being opened from the thumbnail on the home screen. Not sure if that is the same for the other user’s issue. Hope that information helps. The question I have is if those open files that were corrupted are a lost cause or can this be fixed? I appreciate any insight on this issue. Quote

Regarding one of the affected documents can you save it to Dropbox, iCloud, On my iPad and then do 'Close' from the home screen with that document to make sure its removed from the home screen. Once thats done try and reopen it and see if the font starts working on that document. I don't believe the document is corrupt, I suspect it may just need closing and reopening fully. However before you close it, please do verify you have a copy saved to avoid accidentally losing any work. Quote

Wilton33311 Posted August 13, 2021 Author Posted August 13, 2021 To remove ever font… does it have it have to be one by one? I’ve erased affinity and reloaded it., that didn’t work…. And the only way I see to erase fonts is one by one… is this correct? Quote
Wilton33311 Posted August 13, 2021 Author Posted August 13, 2021 Please see video.. all in all it sees that I would have not needed to move everything to the could. And loose all my brushes and font textures that I didn’t save to the cloud. That all I needed to to do was delete al my fonts and let them reload. some fonts were lost I’m guessing because over the years of how they were saved and how the new update now loads the font… I’m guessing the best bet is to stick with using iFont. Wilton33311 Posted August 13, 2021 Author Posted August 13, 2021 So after going back into the affinity. App after about an hour now. All my font is now red and unusable once again. Quote
Wilton33311 Posted August 15, 2021 Author Posted August 15, 2021 To who is still reading this.. I have fonts that show up in projects( ass seen in the picture ) but don’t show in the setting page> Fonts.. The font in the picture Monotown. Is loaded in a profile on my iPad. The app pages sees it and I can use it but affinity does not Quote
wrc04 Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 I'm having the same issue. I just created a new document and typed "hello" and then tried to change the font. None of the fonts I've downloaded to Affinity are working. They are all red with the question mark. Any fonts I download I keep in a folder within iCloud and then I go into Affinity and load the font from within Affinity. I don't have a separate font app. This method worked perfectly fine before the update. Quote
wrc04 Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 ...I should have added that if I reinstall the font from my iCloud folder within Affinity the font will work again until I close the document. If I close the document and then reopen it later the font is gone again. Quote
Swörl Posted August 27, 2021 Posted August 27, 2021 Has this issue been fixed in the 1.10.1 update? Quote
Staff Sean P Posted August 31, 2021 Staff Posted August 31, 2021 Hi everyone, Apologies for the delay in responding - I have been on annual leave for the last week. As I had been unable to reproduce this issue I was hoping it was fixed by the fix made for the Japanese and Chinese font issues in iOS however this unfortunately wasn't the case as you've all reported. Another user had attached a video about this issue which gave me a few more clues and has allowed me to reproduce the issue. Whilst its not a 100% reproducible rate for me, I can reliably reproduce it by having lots of fonts installed, and lots of documents open, and then 1 out of 10 tries the fonts will fail to seen and display as missing I've since spoken with development about this and passed the issue on to them who do have an idea on whats going on and will be looking into a fix for it. In the meantime I found that either installing or uninstalling/reinstalling a font in the Fonts section in Affinity Preferences will correct the issue temporarily. In some cases a full restart of the app (by closing the process down from the iPad's App Switching screen) may also work So thank you again for your help with this issue. Quote
