It would be nice to know what operating system you are working with and what version of Affinity Photo. I still have macOS 10.14.6 Mojave installed and Affinity Photo 1.9.3 from the Serif Store. Dodge and Burn works perfectly here. Have you made any changes to Opacity and Flow? Or in the brush settings? Can't say for certain when this behaviour showed up but in my memory I had much better results from using these tools previously. Colin Red
Hi again, I have Affinity Photo on my iPad and duplicated the above adjustments .... you can clearly see the tools work on the iPad and I do not need to identify them like I did prior. Colin Red
Hi again I just finished installing Photo on my old 2011 iMac using High Sierra and ran the same test ......... the Dodge and Burn tools are working fine ...... This appears to be a problem with the last update ........
Staff Chris B Posted April 21, 2021 Staff Share Posted April 21, 2021 Did you use the same Opacity and Flow on the iPad? The iPad image is much darker too so that's another variable. I've just tested this on my iMac and I can see a clear difference. I did set both Opacity and Flow to 100% though. Perhaps you aren't using a high enough value? Colin Red
Hi, Humour me ..... In the Develop Assistant change the RAW output format to 32bit from 16bit and try again cheers
Staff Chris B Posted April 22, 2021 Staff Share Posted April 22, 2021 It works for me if I change to 32 bit from the Develop Assistant or convert to 32 from 16. I will poke this some more because I am seeing a difference between 16 and 32. Colin Red
thank you, I always work from a RAW file with the Assistant set to 32bit output ......... I was reading something this morning that even some Photoshop tools do not work in 32bit. I only started using the dodge and burn tools a little while ago and noticed the difference when I was explaining the dodge and burn tools settings to a friend

Staff Chris B Posted April 22, 2021 Staff Share Posted April 22, 2021 The tools will be compositing in linear colour space in 32 bit so would appear more sensitive or aggressive.
