catlover
Is there a limit to the number of colors when creating my own palette ? I have imported a palette meant for PS, with a huge number of colors. It works fine, see attachment. Yet, when I try to create my own the number of colors seems to be limited to 256 when using any method of creating, e.g. from document, from image, it just never gets beyond 256 colors. Is there anything I can do to remedy this ? Importing a "grd" file also seems impossible ? PerfectPalette2020.ase

Bit tricky to answer, as it's potentially just an arbitrary number but what i think is happening, the limit currently is due Affinity using an 8 bit colour space when generating the palette which is limited to 256 colours. Would be good if we could increase that or have the option of 16 bit or 32 bit which would generate more colours. However, i will get this confirmed. Importing the swatch you attached is treated differently, as that will already have the colours in, where Affinity is having to generate them, which is can't do past 256 due to the 8 bit limit. catlover
Thanks, that clarifies things. It would indeed be an improvement of the 16/32 bit option could be made available.

Is it using a color space limited to 8 bits total or 8 bits per color (bpc)? I think they are talking about the number of colours in a palette. Not sure what I would do with a palette of 65000 or 4 000 000 colours. AFAIK, the limited number of colors in an Affinity palette does not limit the number of colors available in the color spaces the apps support.
