gridref
I am running 1.9.1.979 on Windows 10. I am unable to paint black on any mask, adjustments or pixels; painting white is fine on a mask or an inverted mask. Painting black has no effect. mask_problem.afphoto
AlainP
Here it works very well. Make sure that you select a good brush for the job, try with a basic brush. How odd. Thanks. It was working just fine a few days ago. Might try a reinstall.

Before you go to the trouble of reinstalling, check that the brush has its blend mode set to ‘Normal’. gridref
Thanks for the tip. I will remember to keep this in mind. Sadly it is not the case this time.

Alfred - thanks - that has sorted it - the problem was the blend mode on the context toolbar that had been set to lighten. I had been looking at the blend mode in the layer panel. Thanks for your help. Alfred

Glad to hear it. Thanks for the feedback! 7 minutes ago, gridref said: I had been looking at the blend mode in the layer panel. An easy mistake to make. That setting determines how the selected layer interacts with other layers, but in your case you needed to specify the behaviour of the tool you were using on the selected layer. gridref 1 Quote Alfred Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for Windows • Windows 10 Home/Pro Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 for iPad • iPadOS 17.5.1 (iPad 7th gen)
