lb Cake
I would like to go back to Affinity Designer version 1.8.5, as I am having a number of difficult to articulate performance issues. I followed the instructions of multiple posts to download the previous version but I am unable to install it (see attachment). Do I have to uninstall Affinity Designer in order to install 1.8.5? v_kyr
Yes, try to uninstall the actual newer version completely first, before reinstalling the older v1.8.5 one. You may also check for probably left over files and settings of the newer v1.9.0 version after uninstalling that one. walt.farrell
Additionally, I would recommend renaming C:\Users\<your-username>\AppData\Roaming\Affinity\Designer\1.0 to something else, say 1.0x, as various files contained in that directory have been updated by 1.9 and may interfere with the correct operation of 1.8.5. However, doing this will also remove any custom Assets, Brushes, Styles, etc. that you've installed. lb Cake
Thank you all, you folks are a big help. I was hoping there was a simpler means to revert but I'll just have to bite the bullet.

That would be simpler than reverting. Since I'm not sure how to gain beta access I'll have to look into it, in the event I have issues with a future update. On a related note at least one of my issues has been improved, if not completely resolved, with the 1.91 update. I haven't had the opportunity to check the status of the other issue, but I'm hopeful. If you keep having problems with 1.9.1 try turning off OpenCl acceleration in Preferences/Performance.

It's extremely easy to load the beta. You go to the link below, download and install the beta. It resides in the computer along side your current released version. It doesn't share anything, which could be the biggest issue if you have a lot of brushes, assets, swatches that you have added. You can switch back and forth between the versions. You can run them both at the same time even. If there is a major version difference between the two then the affinity files may not be able to be read by the oldest version (like 1.8.5 and 1.9.1). But if you are already using 1.9.1 then 1.9.1.971 should be fine. As always it's probably best to make a copy of your affinity file, just in case. Thanks Richard, I should have done that before reverting to 1.8. I stared long and hard at the OpenGL option but ultimately decided not to bother with it. Turning it off seems to have resolved all the issues I was having after upgrading to 1.9.0. RichardMH
