Why, oh why must I download 6gb content EVERY TIME?!

Recommended Posts

Why must I have to download content each time for 6 different Affinity Apps???????????? Beta & Release x 2 x AD x AP x APub... can't there be a common suite of content? For instance, Spray Paint Textures == 965mb then multiply that by APbeta, APrelease, ADbeta, ADrelease, APub-beta, APubrelease.... that close on 6gb to download for one set of content!!! Why can't there be a central/shared repository where they can used a previously downloaded content? Or is each a completely separate configuration? And, I believe, I've had to download a second time for a new beta.... meaning, any beta might require a complete redownload...(I'm not sure on this one though)

Hope this makes sense.

Even if they had a spot for shared content, it would not apply to the retail and the beta releases. They are kept entirely separate to ensure the beta cannot adversely affect the retail version.

There are issues with trying to get Photo, Designer, and Publisher to share the data. In part this is due to sandboxing restrictions imposed by the Mac App Store and the Windows Store.

@haakoo is right.  The simple solution is for you to make a backup folder on your machine (in my case in Finder because I use a Mac) for each category you may possibly want to import into one or more of your apps — assets, brushes, palettes, styles, macros, LUTs, etc.  Sample:  Affinity Brushes.  When you find/or purchase a bundle that you may wish to use some day, download it to your Downloads folder, then copy it to the appropriate backup folder.  When the need arises, all you have to do is go to the appropriate panel, i.e. Brushes in the app you are currently using (i.e. Designer) and click on the hamburger and choose Import Brushes and select the bundle you want from your backup folder.  You can always Export it back out to your desktop when you are finished and delete it — therefore not wasting disk space — so you will not have an extra copy in your main backup folder.  Your permanent backup folders will be your “common suite of content.”  With the advantage that they can expand or contract at your discretion.

But WHY should a product UPDATE require you to make a backup of downloaded content then rely on user to scramble around and place it back????? Shouldn't a reliable updater do that for you? OR, at least ASK? Just happened AGAIN for AFPub from 944 to 952. That's alot of data to have to download EACH time. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the products, but this is very annoying. If it's testing of the content download, then I vote FAILURE.

Well, it will re-download each time you do a product update. If I order a new set of plugs from the dealer for my car and have them install them, I'd expect that should I take the car back to have a faulty gizmo sorted that they would LEAVE those plugs in the car not make me have to replace them again.
